Varia Peloton Mode?

Is there a way to engage Peloton Mode or reduce the Varia's rear light intensity?  Even on "SOLID MIN" mode, it's still quite bright and I get complaints from fellow riders at night :)

  The light intensity is handled within the Varia, so not something HH can change.
  And yes, peloton mode is barely less intens as the regular mode. I often wondered why.
