Creating routes
AnsweredAs an old git still riding mountain bikes and the odd shopping bike aged 78 next month, How can I get the Dashboard to mark the route where I wish it to go the screen print black is where I wish to go but the red one s not the route I wish to use. Is it possible to copy a recorded route and then use that to make a fresh route?

Hi Gordon, yes, it is possible to convert a ride you rode to a fresh route for navigation. Check this article on how to do that: https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/articles/360037034193-Dashboard-Creating-a-Route-from-a-Ride
You can also use the "Ignore path" option on the Dashboard route builder as explained on this article: https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/articles/360008257073-Dashboard-Creating-Routes

Slightly off topic ... but I don't see the point of the "ignore path" option. If you are creating a route, surely you want the software to guide you on the roads (or trails). This option just draws a straight line between two points. I might be missing something simple but how is that helpful? I am happy for someone to offer an explanation that makes sense.

Hi Gordon,
Let me help you to understand the main reason for implementing the "Ignore path" feature on the Dashboard and how the Route creation on the Dashboard works.
Our maps are pulled from the OSM (OpenStreetMap (https://www.openstreetmap.org/) ) database. The OSM database does have many trails loaded into it. The thing to note is that if the trail is marked as a pedestrian footpath and not tagged as a bike path/trail, the Dashboard will not create routes using that trail. The good thing, though, about the OSM database is that it is user sourced and you can submit edits and have trails added - it does take some time to add a new trail or get a path redesigned as bike-friendly, but it is an advantage of the OSM system. You may consider registering and editing it if you think what is available on the OSM for this section is not correct.
In your case, you can see that the OSM has tagged the path as footway from Haygrove close to Ruskin drive as highlighted by the orange path in the below screenshot. This is the why you are not able to create Routes through these paths.
This is where the "Ignore path" feature comes into picture. If you select the Ignore path, this will help you to override the Dashboard automatic Route creation which is based on the OSM data and create the Route the way you want.
The other workaround I can suggest to you is that you can import the Route to your dashboard from any third-party Route planner such as Strava, RideWithGps, Komoot, etc and it will be automatically synced to the Karoo. In most of the platforms, the Route creation is free.
Syncing Routes from Third-Party websites
"Karoo Route Grab" Browser Extension
Importing a GPX File into the Dashboard
I hope this brings more context to the situation. Let us know if you have any further questions.
