Hi Frank - we do have it planned, maybe not directly from the Karoo 2 as of yet- but an automated way to sync on Karoo 2. We would first try and get improvements on route management before we can introduce this.

This is a function which should really get a lot of attention. Komoot is widely used in Europe and your competitors like Wahoo do a fantastic job on route syncing. You just have to sync on the device and all new routes appear on the device.

I would love to see being able to simply sync my routes directly on the Karoo 2 without going to the dashboard first and sync from there.

    Yes please!
An easy first fix would be to have the Karoo trigger a refresh on boot when it has network connectivity.

Yeah it is a bit silly that Once I have starred a route on strava that I then have to log onto my computer sync routes befor I can then get them on my K2. Once I have starred a route on strava it should be able to get it directly on the K2.

Couldn’t the opening of the routes menu trigger a sync on the dashboard?

@all: We appreciate all of the feedback! This of course can help move along the development of the requested changes. As Ali had mentioned, we do have it planned, maybe not directly from the Karoo 2 as of yet - but an automated way to sync on Karoo 2 unit itself. We have to first get improvements on route management before we can introduce this feature.

Uhm, why not just POST users/.../routes/sync each time the unit detects the internet connection or the user opens the routes and there is internet connection? This would cover like 99% of the use cases with a single API call. Thought it will cost hammerhead some AWS money.

This or you will soon see "apps" popping up that do that. I already have a cloud function that does it for me and I call it from tasker on android phone. As soon as I have time I'll sideload the trigger to k2.

As a new user, I got caught out by this today and had to scrabble around on the train, creating a hotspot, finding passwords etc. Really frustrating as I'd been misled by the apparent ease of connecting to Komoot (the K2 had all my previous 'tours', but not the one I created last night after connecting the account - I just assumed it would be there in the morning). If the trains had opening windows, I would have thrown it out!  Eventually worked out that all I could do was disconnect my Komoot account then reconnect it.

I'm not as technically minded as some of the contributors to this thread (couldn't even understand @Michael's post, but it sounds like he knows what he's talking about!), but I may well be typical of a normal user and I have to say that this was a very frustrating first experience. (Although once I got it running, on the road experience was outstanding).

So please push this up your priority list for the sake of less savvy users like me.

Really surprised that I had to log onto a computer to sync routes from Strava. I feel like it's a real inconvenience and a reason i'd consider sending the Karoo 2 that I just bought, back. I'd love to see this feature introduced soon.

You should really update this page then as it's not true that you can "Use your home WiFi  to sync your routes,"

Please give this topic priority. Just ordered a Karoo and the sync with Komoot is the deal breaker for me. Cheers

Hi.  Just faced this issue.  Appreciate that there are lots of things to work on but this is a relatively basic feature for a user.  Gone are the days when we need to log onto a laptop and click a sync button.  This should be driven from the device and automatic sync runs.  Clicking the button on the website calls through to a set of API's for Komoot, Strave and RideWithGps... That functionality can be replicated on the device with a sync button on the routes page.

The device is advertised as the evolution of a cycling computer.  Reflect on the above and your marketing.

Please add this relatively easy feature to the device

Hi! My two cents here after one month of use.

The website can be linked as an icon on Android and it looks like an independent app. So for syncing just open the app.

Unfortunately it is very basic and there is no analytics at all. But that deserves a discussion in another post.

Hi Jgo. Unfortunately, it would not solve issue of website being down as it happened last week end...

Since we already "link" our accounts (strava, komoot, ...) to sync rides, why this connexion could not be used to sync routes we create on these sites ? No more link to the dashboard would be needed in that case.

    It's absolutely absurd that…
    a) Users must *first* sync to the HH dashboard via the HH website before starting Karoo 2
    b) Users can't force a Route sync from the Karoo 2 device. Heck, it's possible to force workout sync from Karoo!

Need this. I've got the unit in just today and this process seems to be a bit of a PITA. Hopefully this gets attention now

RWGPS is a huge route design factor in the US, this synch function should be a priority. Maybe time we might have a change of route and the inability to sync the K2 without turning it off and doing the whole HH dashboard thing is so inefficient .. let up the game a bit HH.

I would like to bump the issue ... Plenty of overhauls in the UI department and still we have to manually trigger sync of the routes from the website ...

    Hi,

right you are. A comment above mentioned the auto-sync feature as implemented at Wahoo.

-> Saving a route on Komoot will directly trigger the upload to the device.

I dont want to be unpolite - but what is here happenig? EVERY user has thus problem. Its an KEY feature? Why to hell does hammerhead not implement an auto-sync button? That should be 2 hours for an developer???
@Hammerhead team: do you use your devices also or do you navigate with wahoo?

Your post is rude. When you buy the device, you are only entitled to the functions that have already been implemented. Any additional updates are the cherry on top. Have you tried to communicate with Wahoo or Garmin about a feature update? I have. You won't even get an answer.

    Just my 2 cents.

@Galeb While I am with you that you always have to buy a device on the feature it "already" has --- even when they promise new features ... But the "automatic" sync of routes is part of those features and is communicated in a way that suggests that you don't need to do any manual operation ....

Especially in "COMPARING THEMSELVES" to Wahoo they point out the Wahoo needs manual interaction - and they don't.

I understand that this is marketing spin, but it's also more than understandable that people get upset if the promised features are just half-there.

@Galeb: this is a must have feature. Wahoo syncs routes automatically (also segments). The thing is, like Rene said, this can't be very hard to implement - it just can't! Maybe it is a 1-2 day job at max and basically every user would benefit from this. This is way more important to me than any climber stuff or other new features they introduce. First, the basics should work.

@andreas: My post was not about the sense or nonsense of this function, but about the bad manners that are unfortunately common in this forum. There is no right to new or improved functions. If it is better at Wahoo or Garmin I wonder why you bought a Hammerhead. My experience with Wahoo support (a new device loaded only to 96% and support said it was normal, and I would have to live with it) and Garmin (no response at all) were sobering.
To attack the Hammerhead support as it happens in this discussion and on a regular basis in this forum is outrageous.

Yes please. I even sideloaded Firefox on the device mainly just to do this, but in the end I still found it easier to use the phone instead.

Putting aside the tone of the users, this device is incredibly frustrating - it does a few things well and is touted as “the best” cycling computer but some basic things either don’t work or aren’t available.

I created a route in Strava and Komoot.  As I was getting ready to ride, I noted that the route wasn’t on the device.  It took a lot of time and effort to get it on the device (and I’m not an idiot with software).  How can it be that the user cannot sync routes from the device?  Then I went to my phone - no ability to sync on the Companion App.  This is completely mind boggling.

I’m still not sure what has to be done - I suppose that I have to go to the hammerhead website, then sync, then reboot the device to get routes onto the device.  Is that right?  If so, that is beyond absurd.

Yup, go to https://dashboard.hammerhead.io/routes and press on the reload (two arrows forming a circle) button, the routes will update instantly on the device at well (as long as it has an internet connection). At least these days the routes are usable right away rather than having to wait for what seemed a little eternity (several minutes anyway) for the unit to crunch them.

Didn’t work for me until I rebooted the device.  Maybe I did something wrong or in the wrong order but it is still too many steps.  Is it asking too much to have a “sync routes” option under Routes on the device or on the companion app?

It does work immediately for me. Press refresh on the phone and a few seconds later the routes appear on the unit, without doing anything.

To make it easier, on Android you can create an app shortcut for the mobile website of the dashboard. Then it is similar to an app. This way, it is pretty quick, but still ridiculous that you have to do this of course. In my opinion this should be at the very top of their priority list, especially as it seems to be easy to solve.

No, you don't have to reboot. The routine is exactly that: create a route in your service of preference, open hammerhead dashboard, go to routes and click/tap the sync button. It gets imported in a dozen of seconds usually. Then make sure your karoo is connected to internet and open the routes. 9/10 it only takes me to put away the phone and grab the karoo to see the route imported already in the list. Sometimes takes them a few seconds to become usable.

This is much better experience than I had with previous navigation units. A sync request issued by user right from the unit would do the trick to avoid the hassle I suppose. But then if the commands are only pushed to the device and there is no framework to implement incoming ones...
