Other Android devices are able to get heart rate data directly from the Apple Watch. Why not Karoo 2?

I have a Garmin Fenix watch and that “Broadcasts” HR and is thus just another sensor for the K2 (note Garmin a specific competitor to HH and it works perfectly).
So does the problem not lie with Apple’s method of broadcasting HR? Why should HH have any special relationship with Apple, for which they would, no doubt, have to pay? Apple should change their HR method to become a standard sensor, not HH having to code something specifically for Apple, who are well known for proprietary solutions.

It's true that the Apple Watch cannot transmit the HR.  Personally I use a HR arm strap and then all my gizmos, including gears, Garmin Varia etc can be seen by the Karoo.  I could in theory ditch the Karoo now that the Apple Watch works with power pedals, but I have many other devices on my rides that only the Karoo can see.

I did notice that if you record the ride on both Apple Watch and Karoo, and then import the Karoo FIT file into Apple Health, Apple blends in the HR.  So net effect it is as if you used the Apple Watch as the heart rate sensor, HOWEVER, you don't see your HR on the Karoo during the ride - you have to look at your Watch.

Final point to make is that to get the ride into Apple Health, I download the FIT file and then import into HealthFit (3 clicks).  HealthFit now contains the full data set and syncs into Apple Health.

The other method, which I don't like, is to have Karoo auto-sync to Strava and then have Strava send the ride to Apple Health.  However, I never use Strava to Write only to Read.  I found that Strava manufactures some metrics eg calories in a way that I don't think is accurate as HealthFit.
