    UPDATE: March 16, 2018

    • We now allow manual upload of activities to Training Peaks via the dashboard.

    • We are working on auto-syncing of activities like the Strava integration.
    • We are in the planning and design phases of workout targets

    Bugs right now:

    • FIXED: FIT files do not upload to Garmin, we are working on this issue.

    Notes:

    • Training Peaks and Other platform syncing is in the works. We want to understand a few more items from customers to make sure the experience is as good as the Strava process.

A quick few questions on this:

    1. Raymond - do you run workouts on your Garmin? I am interested in how customers like to plan their workouts and load them on their head units?
    2. Andy - Just a data point for us: Would you mind if all activities automatically synced to Garmin or do you think selecting individual ones is better?

Chris - Interesting to see an Endomondo user! I have not used this account or service for a while. I understand once you have data in a known service you would prefer to keep it there. It is a less commonly used service but we will see what API access would take.

Raymond - it's useful even without workouts. Many people use TrainingPeaks as their primary store and analysis engine for their training data. Being able to upload directly to TrainingPeaks (either directly from the device or from the dashboard) is really an essential feature.

That is absolutely true but I have a different view to sync or just upload rides. many people use a lot of different platforms. I use TP also but next to that Garmin Connect, Strava, etc. I have set up the dashboard to sync with Garmin Connect and Garmin Connect syncs with strava, TP, etc. Will have to test if this works by the way. If it doesn’t: this feature +20 😉

An upload therefore is not a must have for me. But an auto sync feature covering all the bases (upload rides, download planned workouts as the Garmin 820 does) would be excellent.

i do this differently now. i used since several years my Polar as my main tracker, and this pushes all trainings to : Trainingpeaks, Strava and Endomondo.

No i replaced my heart rate and cadence sensors from Polar by Wahoo sensors because they can connect both with ANT+ and bluetooth.

So the Karoo is synced with ANT+ and Polar with bluetooth.

So i can still use Polar as my "master" account.  If Karoo could only upload to Trainingpeaks wouldn't solve it for me, then they would have to setup a sync to Polar and Endomondo also, which i would off course prefer!!!

    Hi Laurence,

I do run workouts on my Garmin. The 820 has an add on app especially for workout sync with TrainingPeaks. I can create a workout in TP (power and/or heart rate based) which then is uploaded to the 820.

My garmin connect auto syncs with strava, tp and ride with gps so I only need to do one upload to garmin only.

And good to see feedback from HH on the forum. Keeping users informed is key to success and commitment.

    Regards,
    Raymond

    Hi Laurence,

If you can get the sync to Garmin working so that we can then have things sync from Connect, that would be great - I use Connect to sync to Strava, TrainingPeaks and MyFitnessPal. As far as individual vs all - I'd definitely go with all synced automatically. If you don't want one synced individually, you can always delete it after the fact.

I'm with Raymond on this - sync to Training Peaks would only work for me if it included workouts.  My workouts are prepared on TP, I then complete the workout then sync back the ride data to analyse it.

    TrainingPeaks user as well.

Crucially, also do some desktop analysis of workouts. The ability to access the raw file (fit, tcx, whatever) is valuable. And then you don't have to upload to every platform anyone invents. I would love to be able to be able to download to my desktop for analysis on WKO4. I have no idea why Hammerhead restricts access to your own files so much.

@Rodrigo - you can download your fit files through the Dashboard. Go to Activities and download it if you want to analyse it on your desktop.

Thanks Steve! Didn't look up in the dashboard after losing a couple of files. That is exactly what I need.

    Guys at HH,
Please talk to the developer(s) of the SyncMyTracks app.
    Great tool.
Maybe it can offload some of your burdon 😉

I utilize TrainingPeaks for all of my workouts. My coach and I build workouts that automatically sync with my Wahoo ELEMNT, it is an incredible experience:

    Wake Up

    Get dressed, water, etc.

Turn on Wahoo - workout is loaded - auto adjusts with my Wahoo Kickr for the workout.

It truly is amazing - If Karoo could achieve this same experience that would be absolutely incredible.

If you have an upload to Strava automatically, and a TP to Strava account connection, the workouts will go automatically into TP. It’s not an issue and works fine

As far as I know there is no direct Strava to TP connection.

Raymond is correct - Strava considers TP a competitor and doesn't link to it. You can only download your workouts manually one by one as a workout file and upload to TP.

Apologies, I’m talking rubbish! You’re correct of course. My current link is Garmin to TP. Will Garmin al link to Karoo as HH is now a competitor in the hardware market?

HH, It's worth remembering that Garmin simply stopped Wahoo linking  to Connect once they realised they were offering a device that was better in many respects than their own - so don't put all your eggs in the Garmin Connect basket.

    Again, http://www.tapiriik.com/

Link most anything to most anything else. It really works, unattended, doesn't duplicate. Goofy web site with no logon per se, but once you figure it out, it works. I just do Strava from my Ergvideo trainer and let Tapiriik do the rest. In the outdoor season, Garmin Connect and let Tapiriik do the rest!! If I EVER get comfortable with the Karoo I'll let IT do Strava and let Tapiriik do the rest.

@ Tom : This will work fine, until tapiriik stops maintaining or is bought by one of the competitors for example.

That will put you back to start. Don't use external software for basic skills.

I am a cycling coach and use training peaks to manage multiple cyclists. As such each week I upload a number of sessions to TP and the cyclists download the workout, complete it, then upload it again to TP.  I then review the data.

This ability to transfer workouts to and from TP is critical to my,and many others, ability to coach via TP.  Currently the majority of 'my' cyclists use wahoo. However, they are early adopters of new technology.

Not being able to upload workouts to TP for download by others is a real showstopper for me.

More than happy to offer more thoughts if needed.  Strong supporter of karoo!

    Steve, Rodriqo

We are working towards the next phase of the Karoo where we have more intuitive training integrations. These will likely start coming online in the summer.

    Steve

I am interested in how you work with your cyclists who you coach. How often do you update their accounts with new workouts and do you typically tailor your program based around specific events?

    Lawrence.

Yes, very tailored to specific events such as hilly sportive or team track pursuit.

I generally work a week in advance but often tweak workouts for download more frequently. Cyclist know to only download on the day to allow for my tweaking.

    Steve,

    Thanks for the context here.
I have a few more questions out of interest and to help us design our workouts features:

    1. Do you think it would be helpful to provide additional notes and goals around a workout?
    2. Do you use the new workout builder from Training Peaks?
    3. We have been investigating the dual-goal for a step in a workout where a rider is given a power and cadence goal, would you use this?
    4. Do you think adding feed notes and a route to a workout might be helpful?

Tom, Steven Renders thanks for the Taprik and SyncmyTrack links. We are investigating how to do better syncing across the board.
