I had the same issue. I had to tether it to my iPhone to get the software to update. But even after the update, my WiFi is no longer working. Unlike you, however, I can't download map data either. This is a new development with this recent release.

Can you tell me how to tether it to a iPhone to update?

Sure. Please note that you should have a tethering plan with your mobile provider. If you don't, this probably won't work. But to tether your iPhone you need to go to your iPhone Settings>Personal Hotspot and then turn it on. Your iPhone should have a Wi-Fi Password associated with it. Go to your Karoo Settings>Wi-Fi and select your iPhone. It'll prompt you for your password. Once you've successfully entered your password, your Karoo is now tethered to your phone. Then you can go back and try to do the update. Like I said, mine worked, though really really slowly. I still haven't been able to download map data via Wi-Fi. Hope this helps.

Update: Tethering allows me to get map data as well -- not a real surprise of course.

Had the same issue.  Tethering resolved it, but a sub-optimal solution.

Sure it’s not your router and or firewall that may be rejecting the update?

Most have not had a problem downloading. The fact that tethering works suggests to me that you’ve bypassed your router and or firewall settings.

Hey David- not sure at all, tbh, except that the Karoo says it has internet connection in the wifi screen- well, it doesn't say it doesn't have internet connection.  Further, the Karoo updated during unboxing, and the firewall/router settings have not changed since then.

    Thanks-

Hi Geoff, sorry for the delayed response here, glad to see the software update was downloaded. I suspect this could be an issue with the connection to wifi, so in such cases, you can 'Forget' the network from the wifi settings and add your network again.

Thanks, Ali.  Strangely, other functions requiring internet connectivity were working... just download was not.  I'm all updated now, so not going to worry about.

    Thanks-

I "forgot" the network, turned off wifi, rebooted the Karoo, wifi was on when it finished booting, I logged into my wifi router, and the update still won't download. I updated multiple times previously over this same wifi router, a Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band (R7000). I don't feel like doing a factory data reset just for a minor update because then I'll have to reconfigure all my pages and log back in to my Hammerhead and Strava accounts, so I'll just leave it alone for now.

@Dan - with a factory reset you shouldn't have to re-do all your pages, because it should restore them from your HH account when you log back in on Karoo (I've done a couple of factory resets recently and it did exactly this).

However you will have to re-add sensors (not hard) and re-download offline map areas (a pain) and routes.

I have the same issue.  I can download off line map segments from any wifi network but the only way I can get a system update is to use my phone as a hotspot. Even then, it takes 4-5 hrs to download over 4G and often just stops.  It's not a firewall or router issue as I have tried numerous different public and private wifi networks but it will not work with anything but my phone as a mobile hotspot.  Factory resets don't help either.  I suspect this is a server issue on Hammerhead's end.

Between this issue, regular drop outs of sensors on rides, the authentication issue on Friday, and the chore of managing connections to anything but Garmin, I've given up and am returning my device.  Sharing this here in the hopes that Hammerhead use this one menial lost customer as perhaps a catalyst to make some revolutionary changes to this platform and the processes that support it.
