Extreme battery draining when battery is below 30%

A while back, HH said that this was due to the battery capacity not being properly set in the Karoo's operating system. But it's unclear whether they've fixed that setting (I would assume that would be trivial so they'd have already changed that?).

I have had the same problem consistently using the latest and the previous couple of firmware versions so it wouldn't appear to have been addressed.

@Evgeni-There is expected to have multiple unwanted services running at the back, which is causing the battery drain. This has been a known issue and improvement are being made. The battery life has seen improvements after the latest update as reported by our community. However, the sudden depletion from a particular percentage, like in your case below 30% is being worked on.

@Ali - I can't say I've seen any battery life improvements, in fact quite the opposite. I'm currently getting 7 to 7.5 hours from a full charge.

I agree that it has not been resolved for all, Mike and sorry to see yours is still on the lower side. But I assure that the software and hardware guys are exploring all possibilities for overall improvement in the battery life and not only up to a certain stage of the battery indicator.

Thanks, Ali. It's good to know that the issue has been acknowledged and is being worked on.

    @Ali

your explanation does not sound reasonable to me.

Why this only happens below 30%? Do you start some services when battery below 30%? Otherwise I would expect continuous fast battery draining inpdependent of battery level.

Is it possible that the promised fix regarding effective battery capacity (3300mAh) and software capacity in android (3000mAh) is still not rolled out?

Happened to me this morning.  Was only going for a short ride and Karoo showed 41% battery so thought it was plenty.  Started my ride and Karoo died within one minute. 41% to 0% in less than 60 seconds.

    Hi HH-team,

any update on it? It is really frustrating that even 3 monthes after reporting the issue there is still no fix. At some point you (@Franklin) mentioned that the battery capacity is 3300mAh, but in OS you stored only 3000mAh, and that it should be fixed in may. Still same behaviour that the battery gauge goes from around 30% to 1% in 2-3 minutes and then karoo turns of.

Now you claim that the battery capacity is 3200mAh, https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/articles/115006126828-How-long-does-the-Battery-last-

    Quoute Franklin:

hi all, just want to give a little detail on the battery drain issue

    1. during karoo's initial development we used to have a 3000mAh battery, the android system was updated with this value to keep track of when it should start battery saving procedures

    2. later during development we went up to a 3300mAh battery but forgot to update the android system, so for Android, it still thinks we have a 3000mAh battery, this manifests as fast drain around the 20% mark and other manifestations

    3. we are having a fix for this in the next release

    Thanks

Sadly this annoying problem persists for me to this day. 35% to dead in 3 minutes. So the latest update still doesn't have solved the battery drop issue... :-/

Unfortunately, this issue was not resolved in the last release with improved battery performance than before. But after the last release, this is being monitored in the deeper level of Karoo's software.

Is there a fix already applied?

Because I still experience this issue during my longer rides (4 hours cycling - with around 1 hour pause in between).

HH shuts down after 4 hours - and I'm sure it has not been below 30% - during ride I have "Wifi off & BT off", I use only ANT+ (for HR and Cadance). Even my screen brightness is set to about 20%-40% light.

After it shuts down. I quickly restart it - it recovers the ride - and I start a new ride (at 1% batt. for as long it takes)... ;-(

Should I have a powerbank with me every time I go on a longer ride? I think the HH would keep batt life up to 7-9 hours in stead of 4 hrs...

the issue is still thehe, I started with 41% and rode for 2:20h, device died 5min before I got home.

However it behaves differently, sometimes it hits 1% and dies and sometimes it runs ffor 20-30min with 1% and then dies

    Hi,

Today... time for a long(er) ride...

Started with full charged battery at 8 am.
The battery life held until 164km - with some pauses.
Even re-charged with powerbank some in the latest pause.
It was a total ride of 4.5 hrs. The fit-file is included in the mail.

The battery does not what was promised when i bought the device.
It should at least do 10-15 hrs. NOT ONLY 4.5 HRS!
My settings are very default - dark mode, with very low screen intensity.
I only use a hart-rate sensor now, no more cadence sensor.
I have already executed the hard reset to clear cache.

Please hand me a better solution!
The options are: a new device, a new battery or my money back!

I don't want my device to fail anymore if it's fully charged!!!!!!
It should be solved before begin of August, because i'm riding
the Tour for Life - from Italy to The Netherlands in 8 days - 150km per day.

    Kind regards,
    Ronald Oostdam

    Dear Hammerhead team,

I'm having the same issue and am never confident to be able to finish longer rides without putting the screen on stand-by. It always drains between 30- and 40% battery capacity and makes it very unpredictable how to use my hammerhead during a ride.

I didn't notice any progress on this topic after reading about it a year ago and realising it was a known issue. I have to say it's taking too long now.

    >> If there are any future updates please keep me informed.

    KR Hugo
