I got 121miles out of mine yesterday with 36% left...

this was the first time mine died and it was obviously due to the extended time out, but the fact that it went from 20 to off was surprising.  Other riders were low as well with Garmin devices, but were able to see single-digit battery life and captured the whole thing.

My Karoo has "bonked" at 20% the past 4 times I've ridden.  On Saturday while finishing a 35 mi ride it went from 24% to 1% in 5 minutes!  WTF?  I'm not happy with this situation.  What's up?

I never saw the battery change from 20 ... I just happened to glance down and it was black / off.

Yep, saw that happen too on 2 previous rides?!  Very frustrating considering I have multiple riding buddies with the Element Bolt and Garmin devices and have NEVER had an issue?!

This is still a bug and annoying. Happened in previous software versions as also in the most recent release since July 5th.
I had a few long days in the saddle and a couple of times when around 20% of battery indication, the Karoo rushed to 1% batterij within almost 1 minute and than shuts down.

So actually you have only 80% to spend during your ride.

Don’t know whether this is on the list of defects, because it is not only misleading but moreover user unfriendly.

in our group, the Garmin 810 died. 820 went into a deep sleep but prompted on turns. Think the 1000 made it and the Wahoo had like 40% battery which is pretty amazing. Granted the grayscale and small screen helped ... but wow.

I'm beginning to think the smaller screen and b&w viewing might not be so bad?!  Guess it's going to come down to what Hammerhead says they're doing about this battery issue.

I should add that I always run on the lowest brightness and in dark mode though maps are still in the standard color set and I know navigation eats more battery.

also, I did a century the week prior as well though that took much less time and it was fine (and before the most recent software update).

I had TBT on for the return journey so 60 Miles... the problem is it’s inconsistent!

I understand the settings can affect the battery drain, but to actually watch it go from 24% to 1% in ~5 min while riding was very disappointing.  Of course the previous 3x it went from 20% to black screen immediately!

The inconsistent behaviour is definitely a major source of annoyance.  If it just didn't work then I would avoid a feature.  But when it sometimes does work, and is pretty reasonable, it keeps tempting me to try again.  And then it bites me again.  Super frustrating.

Hey Everybody, I can understand the sudden battery depletion and shut off the device from 20-30% battery is very frustrating and this has been notified to the software and hardware team. Investigation are still going on to improve this with each updates.  Apologies for the bad experiences in rides due to this, and I assure this is definitely a point of concern for everybody at HH.

Thanks for the update Ali, but I do hope this is their #1 priority at this point. Functionality options aside, if one has no battery life, all the functionality options in the world don't mean squat!!

Yes, Stephen, this is one of the top priorities to be fixed currently. Hence, every update we try to work on improving the overall battery performance.

My Karoo died yesterday on the return leg of a ride

The outbound on Sat was 55 miles which I completed in 3 hours there was 55% battery remaining when I turned off karoo.

The return Sunday was 55 miles which I completed in 2 hours 55 mins however the Karoo died just 1/4 mile from destination

Karoo's total on time was only about 6.5 hours from full charge to off!

Hey Tim. The battery life is dependent on the make and number of sensors used and the mode of connectivity. We always suggest users turn off WiFi and if possible, Bluetooth or ANT+ (depending on whats not being used by any sensors). You can also try using the Airplane mode for a better battery life. We definitely accept that 6.5 hours is not the expected result but, we are happy with it while also certainly wanting improvement.

There is a known software issue related to battery life and it is being worked on for constant improvement with each update.

With all of this said, if you see any unexpectedly fast battery drains, please send an email to support@hammerhead.io and we will help you out.

    Thanks for the response,

I did have wi-fi turned on for the return journey on Sunday which I normally don't do, I was hot-spotting from my iPhone since I had navigation turned on (and I am assuming that for best performance it needs to be able to query the mapping service when I deviate from the path) ?

I have had much better battery drain in the order of only 8%-10% per hour in the past (but this was usually when I initially had no sensors)

I use HR, speed and Cadence all the time now but will try to keep wi-fi off for now.

Hopefully the team will be able to improve on it soon.

Hey Tim. We don't recommend connecting the Karoo via Wi-Fi to your phone's hotspot, because it will increase your mobile phone's data costs (if applicable) and is a very inefficient use of Karoo's battery power.

Regardless of this, we are certainly constantly working on improving the battery life of your Karoo. Stay tuned.

Ride today pauze, wanted to restart. Before pauze 27%, after pauze totally nothing. Ride luckily on komoot to finish... Not reliable.. No sensors, just following a route downloaded from sentres, an Italien app. Whole day navigation not available.....

My Karoo lasted 160 of 175 miles a couple weekends ago. 11 hours riding time, with navigation. I saw it dropping quickly at about 150 miles, and turned off the screen, hoping it would make it the rest of the ride. No bueno. Fortunately, I was also tracking with Strava on my Android phone, which still had 3% when I finished. Just enough to save the track and shut down.

Doing a century in the morning, we'll see how the Karoo handles it. Thus far, I have no complaints about battery life, just wish the reported usable remaining power was accurate.

I don't think is is resolved.  My battery died less than 15 minutes into a ride today and it indicated over 60% when I started.  Quite a let down since I pre-ordered the device and had to take last season off, so other than some trainer time, I only have two or three rides on the device.

I experienced it today. Karoo shut down without warning when it reached 20% or so.
