I was on a 250 km tour with offline maps. Since it was very hot, I turned from the track to the next town. There was no map on the Karoo.
I was in Potsdam (Germany) for a few days. Since it is not possible to have offline maps in the Karoo in the necessary number or size, I did a factory reset before. I loaded Potsdam as a home region, 120 MB of data were loaded onto the Karoo in 3 hours. On site I was surprised that no offline map section was displayed, but Berlin was available at least partially as a map. A trip to the southwest took us off the map after a few minutes. I activated cellular data and we were able to continue riding, but had to wait up to 5 minutes to get maps to continue although we were slow. In the end, 10 € of credit on the SIM card was used up. The trip was 30 km long.
For a 2000 km trip (2 weeks), I loaded 15 tracks to the Karoo. Factory reset before, in order to be able to load as many offline maps as possible. I could charge 10 and it tok me days for it. Every day I deleted the driven track to make room in the memory. On the 9th day I decided to drive a little different than the track. I was left instead of on the right side of the river. No card (no Cellular Data available).
For the last days of the trip I still needed offline maps. I spent a whole night trying to load map data. Not one succeeded. So I had to follow the track the last days without having cards.
Since the routes on the dashboard do not give the desired tracks, I created the tracks with another program. Importing the tracks to the dashboard and the Karoo changes the tracks. Partially changed tracks are uploaded to the Karoo. This is to be avoided at all costs. There can be no confidence in the solution found by the Karoo.
Right now I'm trying to get offline tickets to the Karoo again. Two worked. I can go to Amsterdam, but not back with offline maps. Not a chance.
I load a 200km track (name "xyz") onto the Karoo, ride it and save it. Now I have a morning ride, which lasted 10h, which I have to rename to "xyz" again. I decide to export the track. Now it is called Karoo-Jul-08-2018-090xxx.fit. Can you explain to me what this is good for? I have no explanation. I have good reasons for myself why I call it "xyz".
I was at a 24-hour race. The lap was 17 km long. After the first lap the display "destination arrived" (or similar) was to be read for the remaining 23.5 hours. Also very helpful information, I knew I could stop driving, nothing new would come.
The Hammerhead slogan "building the world's best..." may vote for New York (a 3 mile trip to a friend's bike shop), but it doesn't work for tours much further than 3 miles. Cellular data and WLAN is not always available. On my two week trip, half the time.
For me the Karoo is the worst I know so far, it is useless for my needs. I have spent many days to make tracks avaible offline, without success. Your workaround doesn't work.
Give an installation instruction for e.g. OsmAnd, the device is usable and I am satisfied for now. Then you also have time to put your software in order.
I need offline maps, only then I can be sure to be able to deviate from the track, or to change my mind about driving differently.
