Hey Kurt, We haven't dropped the plan to support the varia. We are currently planning for next year's roadmap and I have provided my input to the product team. Working closely with our customers I understand the number of users who would want this feature on their Karoo and so I have shard it with them.

Varia is the only - unique equipment we have to promote some protection of our backside. Despite it's not that popular, if you are able to add it in Karoo, even if just one life would be saved, it worth it.
I'd like to have my varia on Karoo's screen, still waiting since it has been launched...

Double count me, I just bought a Varia Radar for my wife for Christmas.

    Ali,

I'm really glad to hear that. Varia is life-saving technology. Seriously Ali, for anyone that has a Varia, your device is a paperweight, because the safety/confidence imbued by having a 450 ft radar tracking multiple targets and their rate of approach is not negotiable. I ride here, occasionally with members of this group. You can't imagine how much more I appreciate my Varia Radar now.

To underline what Kurt says - if you had a Varia Radar and were using it with your Garmin bike computer, you didn't need Garmin's Varia head unit and you probably bought it that way.  Unfortunately, Garmin does not sell the head unit separately, they sell it in two configurations - as the tail light unit and as the bundle of the head unit with the tail light unit.  The head unit provides the target display and audio warnings that would otherwise be provided by the Garmin bike computer.

So what I am pretty sure this means is that HH would lose the opportunity in many cases to sell to current Garmin users with Varia taillight packages (predominance of what is sold according to my LBS) because they cannot get a head unit to make it work alongside the Karoo.  Hopefully that makes sense, it's probably an important but subtle piece.  From what I hear from our LBS, they are selling a surprisingly large number of Varia Radars especially now that many road cyclists are jumping on the daylight taillight bandwagon for safety.

Thank @John. I think this is valuable information and will make sure to pass it on to responsible team member here.

    Glad to help.

Garmin was pretty smart about this. If they had offered it as only the bundled package (head unit plus taillight) then there would have been a lot of head units available cheap on eBay.  As it stands, there are very few head units for sale on eBay (none I could find today).  It took me a long time to find one on eBay when I bought one for my v1.0 Varia Radar a few years ago.  That really constrains those who have the radar to stay with Garmin.

If you lose your head unit you can't even order it from Garmin as a replacement unit (I tried, unless they've changed the policy).  You'd have to buy the whole $299 package all over again.

I would also expect this to increase since they upgraded the taillight (RTL510) to a taillight that works very well in the daylight.

I would love to have Varia support on my Karoo. I think the Karoo's beautiful display would work wonderfully to display the radar data!
