Live segments 100 limit update please
CompletedCan anyone in Hammerhead update us on the status of the Strava Live Segment 100 limit problem? It has been my no.1 issue with the Karoo ever since Live Segments was released.
Most of my starred segments that I ride regularly don't get downloaded as they are not within the first 100 and there is no way I want to delete any from Strava to get under the limit.
Last I heard there were a number of options being considered, including downloading the closest 100 based on geographic location.
If it can't be fixed easily I'd appreciate knowing why? Is it a Strava API issue, a Karoo limitation, a dev prioritization issue or something else?
Thx, Robin

Hi Robin, We definitely would love to see a possibility of more than 100 segments. One reason, this has not been the priority is, there aren't too many requests from the community. However, I would also like to inform you that this limit also applies to our competitors. So we do not have an immediate answer to it, as it requires investigation so we can prioritise. I have started a conversation with our product team and will update you here on the probability and a more definite anwer.
One question that might help me would be, ideally how many segments would you like to see on the Karoo once starred.

Doesn't the 1030 also have a 100 segment limit? https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001197484-Strava-Live-Segments-on-your-Garmin-Edge-1030

For me it´s not that really working:
Starred a already existing segmet and it showed up on the K2.
But already starred segments still missing on the K2 when approaching them.
Even when dismark and mark them again and synced in the SLS Options they are not shown in the list on the K2.Any suggestion?
Thanks. -
Thanks Ali, I currently have 205 starred segments in Strava so, if there has to be a limit then 300 would suit me. I'd also be happy if you could download the first 100 by geographic proximity. Can you comment on why Hammerhead can't just set it to say 1000? Surely the device can handle it and if the vast majority of Karoo users have under 100 then it shouldn't represent a significant Strava API load? E.g. does the number of segments downloaded impact the performance of the Karoo when searching for segment matches and/or calculating Live Segment displays?

Robin, Thanks for letting me know of your requirements. As of now, it has been limited and couple of reason being Strava are very conservative with how much load we are allowed to place on their API because they support a lot of other head units doing the same thing. We also want to ensure everyone can use the Live Segment experience on Karoo, we have to enforce a cap at some value to distribute that API load across our growing user base.
I have shared your requirements with the product team, and hopefully we will find some solution to your needs.

I asked the same question when live segments landed via ATG but wasn't really given a reason by it's limited to 100. I've reduced the number of segments I have starred but still have around 200. On a local 30km ride today only 2 segments popped up despite many more being shown on the map screen. I do like the live segments facility but it really doesn't work for me with the current limits.

Hello,
right now I´ve starred/marked about 460 segments and was using the 1030 before I switched to the K2. With the 1030 there were no problems with all my starred segments. But when riding with my new K2 I was wondering why my starred segments does not appear along my way. So please set the limit waaay higher than 100. Why is it this low?
Thank you. -
@Tim + @Hammerhead-Support
This weekend I´ve created some new segments in strava. I´ve marked/starred them and then synced the segments on my 1030. The new created segments were there (I´ve searched for them on the device). After this i jumped on my bike and when I arrived at (one of) them my 1030 gave me the information that this segment is near and it soon will start. All fine.
I´ve also synced the segments with my K2. First, I miss the search option like on my 1030. When I choose "sync segments" there´s no way for me to see which segments has been added or deleted. So I have to scroll through all my starred segments. But can not find the new one I´ve created.
The next thing that could be improved is that segments with longer names: the name of those segments are cut off after some letters so it´s hard to make a diffrence between similar named segments. Even when I open a starred segment the name is cutted off.Thank you.

So i don’t know about how starred segments are sorted and selected when > 100 but i am using VeloViewer website for the gestion of the starred : you can see them on a map, sort them in almost anyways possible ... so i can make sure my selection is updated and satisfies my next ride(s), and that this selection stays below the 100 limit. As i have paid a subscription for VeloViewer i can’t assurd you this service would be free (some of them are) but i think it is worth have a look at it

Maybe we should ALL write to Strava about this most ridiculous limit? The Segments is one of the main reasons I became a Strava subscriber. If they take my money, they should deliver!
There seem to some people that have more than 100 segments, but probably not too much, otherwise there would be more cries. And most of those above 100 will be well below 500 (I'm at 450 starred segments, though). Nobody can tell me that those few with 100 to 500 segments will dramatically increase the load on Stravas servers.
