Same/similar issue for me - my iPhone 12 mini will not re-pair with my phone after the initial pairing - so every time I turn my Karoo 2 off I have to tell my iPhone to forget my Karoo 2, then re-pair by entering a 6-digit code . . . really annoying

Hi All, Could you guys help us understand where you keep your phone on your ride? or how far is it from the Karoo?

My phone is kept in my cycle Jersey back  pocket , pretty much where every cyclist keeps there  mobile.

Mine is kept in my front pocket, Max 20 cm away from the Karoo. I wouldn’t assume it is a distance issue, hope it is not a HW related issue because with my device and the iPhone 12 with actual iOS SW it is pretty obvious

Thanks, all. At this time, we don't have reason to believe it as a Hardware issue. Thank you for all your input.

this happens to me too when I stop to get food.  I am not right next to the bike, sometimes 20-30 yards away.  the screen also goes dark.  when I "wake up" the screen, the phone has been disconnected.  note this is not an issue with my phone.  I also have a wahoo elemnt and that unit doesnt disconnect at pit stops.

I have tested this issue multiple times yesterday on a ride. I have an iPhone 12 Mini. The phone is connected to Karoo while I have them in close proximity. I then put my phone in my back jersey pocket and begin riding and the bluetooth connection drops within one minute. Then I tried again, removing the iphone from my bike wallet and putting in back left jersey pocket, same thing happened. (I thought having it inside the wallet was causing the issue but it still happened with the phone uncovered). This occured throughout a 2 hour ride and never had a solid connection. I even went as far as toggling off BLE for my sensors, so it would only use ANT+. This also had no affect. I did not test riding with phone out front (close to Karoo) because I had no where to place it other than back jersey pockets. One of the main features which got me to buy the Karoo 2 was to get notifications for calls and texts. It’s a real bummer if this does not start working soon.

From the latest SW update I can confirm that the issue does not (yet) occur any more: My phone (iPhone 12) stays connected through the whole ride and notifications are properly shown (not shown when I am on a Strava Segment).

Thanks for taking care about that topic!

Unfortunately, my iphone X continues to have the same problem today as I wrote above, even with the latest software. It connects initially then within 5 to 10 mins of riding the message comes up "Phone Disconnected". After a few seconds this message disappears and then a few seconds later the same message comes up again. This happens 5 or 6 times  then the "phone disconnected" message seems to remain at the top of the screen until I manually swipe it away, after which the phone remains disconnected and no more messages. Hopefully we get a resolution soon.

Same here as of March 7th. iPhone 12 Pro Max and Karoo 2 will not hold a connection more than 1-2 minutes before constantly disconnecting during my ride. Very annoying. I hope a fix is coming soon!

Hi All, We would really want this to be flawless on your rides, this is still a known issue and being investigated with big efforts from the developers looking at the ride analytics.

Hi Ali, good to know you’re working on it - TBH phone integration was the main driver for switching from the Karoo to the Karoo 2 so it’s kind of essential

I rode for probably 2 and a half hours yesterday and my Karoo2 flashed the notification "phone disconnected" probably 4-5 times. It never stopped me from receiving message notifications though, so maybe its dropping and reconnecting quickly? Can you add a "Phone connected" notification?

iPhone 8 kept in jersey back.  Phone disconnected message several times throughout ride, but seems to be when stopping at a stop light.  I have auto pause enabled.  Possibly related to that as I don't otherwise encounter it during a ride (but will pay closer attention).  Headed out now, so will see if turning auto pause off does anything.

Nope - not related to auto pause.  Road for an hour and the phone disconnected several times while unpaused.

Update on my issue: iPhone 12 mini seems to stay connected if I keep the phone somewhere in front of me (front jacket chest pocket or front pocket of tights). It seems to drop connection intermittently when it goes behind me (back jersey pocket). I thought I did one ride with it in back and it stayed connected. I guess the problem is consistency.

I recently received my replacement Karoo 2 head unit (after an issue with my original Karoo 2) and have encountered the same problem as identified by others with my iPhone X disconnecting mid ride.

This is disappointing that this known issue has not been resolved by the Developer yet.

I will pack away my Karoo 2 and go back to using my trusty Edge 830 that has no issues with phone connectivity.

if the problem with the Karoo 2 is not resolved within the next say 30 days, I will return  my Karoo 2 and seek a refund.

Same issue with my iphone 8 but only since last update which also bricked my karoo 2 so that nothing would start.  had to do a hard reset, reconnect everything and download the maps.  Totally annoying.  Now karoo 2 working but disconnection still happening (barely into ride, during ride).  Phone is in back jersey pocket.   Does not reconnect so no messages coming through.  One of the main reasons I upgrade to the 2 from original Karoo.

@all: We of course really want this to function properly & consistently on each of your rides. This should be a flawless integration. However, this is still a known issue & being investigated with big efforts from the developers looking at the ride analytics. We have plans for the next software release to address the behavior of the phone pairing experience. Please keep an eye out for the upcoming releases.

My connection issues have gotten worse since the last couple updates. I have tested it both while riding and while sitting on my couch with my iPhone 12 Mini. It used to work in-ride if I kept the phone and computer closer to each other; perhaps my phone in a front bib or jacket pocket but always disconnected when phone is in back jersey pocket. But now, even if I’m just sitting in my house with the phone and karoo 2 right next to one another, the karoo will randomly disconnect from the phone. This should not happen when they are that close to one another with no other sensors connected.

This is a really strange issue for me because there seems to be no pattern to when it happens. Friday I rode for 4 hours with no disconnecting, but then on Sunday I was about 30 minutes into my ride and I received the disconnected notification probably at least two dozen times. Some notifications were literally stacked up seconds apart. Very annoying. Eventually it just lost connection permanently and I was honestly relieved. I do hope this issue is getting priority.

I don't even get the "phone disconnected message".  My iPhone 12 Pro pairs with the Karoo 2, but then nothing... no notifications of phone calls or messages... nothing.  When I go back through the settings its not connected.  It appears to pair, but it never actually takes.
