So tired of all the issues
AnsweredEvery single time I ride with my K2 I feel like I'm waiting for what will fail this ride. I've had so many issues now that I just assume every other ride will feature some sort of failure. For instance yesterday I started a ride at 78%. A few miles in I noticed that my battery was draining faster than normal so I decreased the brightness to 45%. It seemed to help, but less than 4 hours later I had to put the K2 in low power mode at 20%. I thought that would help but less than an hour later it completely died. Then get home and try to upload what it had recorded and have the lovely Strava upload issue.
Here's what I've come to expect from my K2:
iPhone connection issues: Every other ride (especially annoying when it disconnects and reconnects to your phone multiple times per minute)
Unexplainable battery consumption: Every 3-4 rides
Inability to upload to Strava: Every week
These are such basic fundamental features that I should be able to have complete confidence in. I would understand an issue here or there, but these are happening at a frequency that is simply unacceptable. I'm honestly ready to sell my K2 and write this whole thing off as an expensive beta test.
Hammerhead, you need to address these fundamental issues or people will not support you.

I'm aware this reply is not helping you at all, but I experience none of your issues.
Have now used the K2 for about 10 rides for a total of 24 ride hours. Connectivity (Android) works fine. Battery drain is consistent with 8% per hour. No Strava upload problems.
My usage is always following a route with the occasion al rerouting. HR and Cadence sensor via Ant+. Brightness slider somewhat halfway. No 4G SIM.

@Martin B
I've ridden with the computer 4-5 days a week since late February. Always tethered to my bars, never dropped, never left plugged in charging for extended periods of time, screen protector. Honestly I don't know how I could be more careful with it unless I just stopped riding with it. This is a PRODUCT issue. Not a USER issue.

The iPhone connection thing may well be an issue but I never encounter it because I'm riding my bike; not interacting with my phone. The whole reason I ride is get some downtime from the always-on/always-connected world we live in. If I want to look at my phone, I will stop and look at my phone. Not look at some poorly designed notification on my cycle computer that does not then enable me to respond to the call to action notification from the same device. It's another low value feature for me (like SLS). If somebody is trying to get hold of me urgently, they will call me which will cause my phone to ring and vibrate and my Apple Watch on my wrist to vibrate. Anything else can wait until I've finished my ride.
My screen brightness is typically set to 25% and find it perfectly adequate for most light conditions in the UK whilst keeping power usage down to approx 10% per hour.
The Strava upload thing is well documented in other posts and I can't be bothered to repeat it again here. Search.
Hammerhead would do well to make an official statement on this matter since it is not necessarily the Hammerhead Karoo's software that is causing this particular issue but it's widely perceived to be a Hammerhead software issue.

I'm not saying the product does not have any issues, but (unless your device is defective) there has to be a difference in our use cases. I could not be happier with the K2. Sure there's room for improvement, but I've had no issues at all.
The only noticeable difference is that you have been using the K2 for a longer amount of time. I got mine mid March. Have you tried to do a factory reset? All configuration is saved in your profile, you only have to reconnect your sensors and your phone.
-
I don't really have any issues either, the only sensor which does not work properly for me is the Garmin Speed Sensor. The automatic calibration system doesn't work correctly, which causes incorrect speed and distance. Furthermore, I use a Garmin HRM Dual and a Garmin Cadence Sensor which both work fine. I also don't have any problems with syncing to any of the connected platforms. So, although there are some possible improvements, I am very happy with the K2 compared to my old Garmin bike computer.

Currently I don't think I'm having any connection issues with sensors besides my iPhone.
Yesterday I had these devices connected when I had my issues:
Varia Tailight RTL510 [ANT+]
Scosche Rhythm 24 (Cadence and HR) [ANT+]
I also use these devices on other bikes:
Quarq Power Meter (Power and Cadence) [ANT +]
Garmin Speed Sensor [ANT+]
Varia Headlight [ANT+]
I have not noticed a difference in K2 performance with different sensors connected. My experiences / issues have been the same regardless. They're random and I'm especially puzzled by the battery life and iPhone connection issues. I'll try a reset tonight and see if things get better.

@Nigel Since you asked:
For the record, I've been using some Cardiosport Speed and Cadence sensors connected over Ant+ - and a Polar H10 HRM - over the last few weeks so I'd like to think my contributions here are not spam. I don't own a power meter of any sort and my bike has mechanical shifting.
I don't ride as frequently as I would like (2-3 times a week) but I have not experienced any noticeable issues with any of these sensors and my Karoo 2, other than accuracy (probably caused by auto calibration of the speed sensor).

@Kevin: We are extremely sorry to hear about the multiple issues that you are facing with the unit. We totally understand the frustration you are going through and we want to get this resolved as soon as possible.
> Since the battery drain on your unit is high compared to other reports from the users, could you please share the FIT file of the Ride at support@hammerhead.io for us to analyze the behavior of the battery drain?
> We have made some significant improvements with regards to the Phone connectivity and it will be released in the coming update. The ATG community is testing the software as of now.
> The software team has identified this as a critical issue and they are already in touch with Strava to develop a permanent fix for this. We expect this should be fixed in the coming update.
-
I proceeded with the factory reset and so far most issues have been fixed. I'm pretty pleased that it seems to be working so far! Fingers crossed new updates continue to solve more persistent issues. I think the main concern I had was with battery life, so hopefully future updates continue to improve and optimize the device for longer use.

To be fair I'm loving mine had it a few weeks no issues probably jynxing it now lol hands down beats garmin had nothing but issues with my 1000. I don't have my phone connected for notifications as if anyone wants me urgently they would ring. I can only assume having that on would drain it super mad.

The problem with the irregular issues , is that they are irregular.
Those with no changes and the same stable set up , often don't have problems.
Those with new changes, multiple bikes, need for adaptation and more complex setups, often do. So I guess the OP must be afflicted by space lasers. Or there are problems they haven't explained how to avoid.
I have never had a flat tire, so I don't understand why some of these guys carry pumps. They must be afflicted, too.
-
@Richard
Definitely not affected by space lasers. I do use my K2 on 3 bikes with a variety of different sensors. The device was designed for this, hence the different profiles. So I'm pretty sure I'm not using the device in some odd way. These are issues that are not user related.
I'm glad you have a very stable setup and have never had a flat tire. An odd thing to claim on a forum post lol.

LOL Just my snarky way of saying that the folks that say they never have any trouble, forget to add, Yet. Sorry if my pronoun left you feeling I thought you were the one not fixing or explaining the issues, or mine works better.
I need to do a pre ride and mid ride resets often. Varies with the issue, task, and version.
The HH folks are a small group and try hard. That said they fail to engage well the folks that are doing a lot of the troubleshooting and repair with transparency and effective inclusion. They could , for example, do videos on changes and features to replace the choppy scattered help files, have Zooms on use, have a help ticket process that has a form that includes descriptions of the setting and configuration, or present that data to observing participants, have a display of configuration app, and/or have a FAQ /forum that is more than a FB whineline meets the fanboyz , and that gave the experience more of teaming with the users in development. Things like that might offset the feeling of a Beta product ,that performs erratically, that many encounter.
I really wonder if just a vid of a tech answering interesting tickets might not be engaging, helpful and entertaining.

I'd just like to update this thread and say that since I've performed the hard reset my device has been performing wonderfully. I'm cautiously optimistic for the devices future especially with the great new updates being pushed like the "Light" screen mode. I still think the device compromises in some ways from other competitors, but with the basic functionality more or less being resolved I'm a happy user. I'm heading out bikepacking in a week for an extended journey, so I'm crossing my fingers that the K2 will perform without flukes. To anyone having odd battery drain or other issues; do the hard reset. It's relatively painless and definitely cleaned up the functionality for me!

I had battery issues initially and got onto Hammerhead as battery died on every ride. They got me to completely drain the battery and recharge it rinse and repeat a few times and now my battery life is quite alright. I wouldn’t say it’s great but it does not die on a 5-7 hour ride. Whereas before it wouldn’t last.
Still think battery is the biggest flaw in this product as it would make for daily charging if travelling -
Lithium batteries will act that way. Not uncommon. I have "saved" or "restored" eBike packs that way. Some times the battery management system (BMS, that little board on the battery packs) will be trying to balance the cells and get into a state that messes with the functioning by acting dead or performing below capacity.
