Charging on the go - need need elongated mount.
AnsweredAnother redesign suggestion for Karoo engineers. I've a son dynamo which i use to charge a small anker powercore cyclinder battery mounted to the handlebars (it's 30.8mm so can use standard mount).
I'd like to connect that charger to the karoo 2 on the fly. But there's a problem - it's really difficult to connect a charging cable to the karoo when in the mount. The problem is that it's at the wrong angle and the mount isn't long enough. The upshot is that it's dang difficult to fit any robust connector into USBc charging port on the Karoo. I did find a nice right-angle compact cable from amazon but it's still really fiddly to connect. Moreover with this and many other USBc connectors won't fit into the port - they tend to be too big to push in fully. I fix by filing down the rubber coating but how I wish the Karoo would accommodate the connector.
But back to the top. A really like the karoo mount but wish it was longer and at a slightly different angle to allow a charging cable to be used when in the mount.
There is a different solution. Use a standard Garmin mount with the adaptor supplied. But it's a clumsy solution.
Please consider this on the next iteration. A simple design tweak. Ty doing what I'm trying and tou'll quickly see what I mean and kick yourself.

Not seeing the point of the proprietory mount when the only available option is a weird 'roadie' selfie stick fitting for it. I tried dismantling the outfront mountie thing thinking the two screws would drop it off the mount so I could use it elsehwere but no, that just drops half the clothepeg part off. It looks like it needs powertools talking to it to make it useful away from a timetrialist's bike.
Now if it came in a version to fasten directly ONTO a handlebar it might be more useful. -
I used to think access to the charging port was a problem but I've since bought a 90º USB-C cable off Amazon that I plug into the USB-C port on my Mophie powerbank.
It's pretty good quality and does the job well:

Here's a link to the cable I bought (note that both ends have USB-C plugs - other variants are available):

On the subject of the mount, I bought a very nicely 3D printed foot off eBay which I've attached to a K-Edge mount. On the underside of the K-Edge mount, I have fixed the K-Edge combo adapter for me to sling a front light underneath. I'm very satisfied with this arrangement and is a massive upgrade over the supplied mount, which is manufactured from the wrong (too brittle) type of plastic.

I am not happy with the charging via dynamo (SONdelux 12) for the Karoo 2 - my last details in this thread - https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/community/posts/4410834154011/comments/4418374002075
Do you charge via Dynamo without problems?
