Should a ride selected using a defined route "auto end"?

I've created a bunch of routes using the dashboard for rides that I do very regularly. When I cross the end point of any of these route/rides (typically as I turn into my driveway at home, which is also the start point) should the ride automatically end and the data be saved even if I continue beyond the end point? So far it seems I have to manually end the trip, am I doing something wrong? (I presume the ride is still active as my headlight continues to flash even though I'm not moving, if that's a valid assumption.)

And along the same lines, should the selected route/ride automatically start recording when I cross the starting point?

Apologies for my naivety, this is my first actual bike computer despite having logged almost 20000km the old-fashioned way over the last 4 years. The Karoo 2 is working great but there are a load of button presses, screen swipes and so forth to memorize to prevent accidentally losing my ride data.

  Ok, that's the way it has been functioning but I was curious if it was capable of a more automatic start/stop when using a predefined route. Thanks!

  Exactly what Benno said, Thanks Benno!
  I often use routes that others made and they don't start at home. I ride to and from the route start/end. Being able to record my ride separate from the route is helpful in that situation.
