Suggestion for Improving the New Data Labels
The first thing I did when I bought my Karoo 2 was to set up my screens (of course, that's what everyone does). For example, when I wanted to add a power metric, I went to the list and selected:
"3s Average Power"
Then going back to my screen, I saw the label:
"3s Pwr"
Simple, easy to remember, no further explaination needed.
So after my first few rides I learned where everything was located on my main screen. It only took a glance at the first field on the right to see my speed, second row right for my power, and third row right for my heart rate, etc. No data labels needed.
The data labels were still there, acting as a hint, a gentle reminder, unnoticed unless I needed them (like on the seldom used fourth and fith screens).
There is nothing gentle about the data labels in the new UI. Everytime I glance down at my unit, it shouts at me "3S AVG POWER". But I already knew that and it's damn annoying.
Plus, I find the longer-two line labels visually interfere when I do a quick glance. The longer I'm looking at my K2 trying to locate a bit of data, the longer I'm NOT looking at the road.
And finally, the new boxes and borders may make "glancing for data by position" quicker - but it's hard to tell when the labels visually demand so much attention.
So, please go back to the original one line abbreviations, reduce the font size, and subdue the font color so the data is "brighter" than the labels.
Thanks!

+1 Readability, or more accurately, glanceability is critical to me for any head unit. It seems as if the Hammerhead production team doesn't know this. But without it, all the cool data features mean very little "in ride". And I don't care about boxes, or grey borders, or rounded corners, those are just window dressing. I care about visually acquiring my data as quickly as possible and getting my eyes back on the road.
The new data label scheme destroys in-ride glanceability.

Echo teh others comments. The additional labels for the fields should be optional. Personally i prefer the less is more approach, indeed if i have spent time assigning screen sections to particular data fields i would rather not have the clutter of labels shown. The old Abbrv' were much preferred.
