how to get new directions during a ride

I'm off to France soon, and will be exploring without having set a route in advance. Once I'm out on a ride, is there a way  to put a pin in the map and say "route me there". I will have an internet connected phone with me - is it a case of creating a route on that, and pushing it to the karoo?

If that method is correct:

1. What is best app to use on phone to create a route?
2. Is there any way to connect Karoo to phone other than use phone's wifi hotspot?

  Yeah, you can just start a ride, switch to a screen with the map and unlock it, find where you want to go, drop a pin, let the Karoo figure out a route and on your merry way you go. No need to use your phone at all, except often when I do this, I do first use a map on the phone to figure out where it is that I want to go (unless I can point the destination on a map without labels, an address/POI search on the unit would be nice...).

  I find that the routes the Karoo creates are quite okay, and when they don’t go the way I would prefer to go (say when I have a route just for the sake of the last km or keeping track of general direction), I just keep going and the route keeps updating accordingly. This is where the reroute function actually works very well in my experience.
