New to Karoo 2 - Elite Cyclists Perspective (It's not very positive!)
Hi All
As a long time Wahoo user I have recently got a Karoo 2 and am now around 1,000 miles into my ownership experience. Overall it has been very good but I do have the below issues which I didn't expect from such a highly reviewed and expensive device. None of these issues I have had on my five year old original Wahoo Element!
Has anyone else experienced these issues?
Charging time - It seems to take forever when using the correct output power brick and cable.
Battery depletion - The last 10% of my battery basically doesn't exist. Gets to 11% then 10% and then instantly dead with no warning.
Charging brick/cable requirements - It's not made very clear that only certain bricks and ideally the supplied cable should be used.
Screen Glare - When riding directly into the direction of the sun on a bright day even with the brightness turned right up the screen is totally un-readable.
Screen with sunglasses on - In certain sun directions in addition to the above the screen is unreadable with sunglasses on.
Generally laggyness - flicking between screens is not responsive and pushing buttons there is a noticeable half second delay.
Workout screen - Has nowhere near the same level of information as the Wahoo workout screen and cannot be customized.
Training Peaks integration - Although workouts pull through the device does not automatically update power zones from training peaks like on a Wahoo. It also doesn't pull through the text instructions my coach puts on TP like a Wahoo does. This is important when you get to a certain level of training.
Lack of Bluetooth linking - I see on the Karoo website that this is marketed as a benefit. Can't see what benefit this brings and my prehistoric wahoo has both bluetooth and wifi.
Location of side buttons - On a Wahoo there are buttons on the top and the ones on the side a very well placed so that they are at the Centre of mass so hitting them doesnt risk spinning the device out of the mount. The Karoo buttons are not in the centre and need a firmer push which has nearly resulted in it spinning out the mount.
General size and weight - It is very heavy and bulky. Ok for training but less so for racing where carrying the extra size and weight could affect race results (I have won races in the past by less than a couple of inches).

Charging time - yep, it's slow. On the bright side, battery will probably last longer.
Battery depletion - just yesterday I was coming home with on less than 10% battery which was linearly discharging without problems. Perhaps your unit needs battery calibration?
Charging brick/cable requirements - I'm using a generic 60W capable cable, an Anker charger and it works fine. I *guess* most of cables should work as charging is not power hungry as you noted.
Lack of Bluetooth linking - ?
