New OS versions require more microprocessor resources, memory, etc. I doubt that our devices support it, and if they do, the performance will surely be much lower than currently.

There are updated android OS versions called “Go” which is made for phones with low specs. So it could be an option. It’s really a very lightweight version that probably should be used on this type of device. https://www.android.com/versions/go-edition/

Javier, on the first count: Oreo is an absolute mess of memory leaks, superfluous CPU drain, bugs and bad code.  It's one of the reasons why performance is so poor on the K2 - combined with the very weak hardware.  Android's actually gotten much better.

But you're most likely correct that 'out of the box' the existing hardware would not function on a significantly newer version of Android.  At best the firmware (and device) might function in some kind of compatibility mode - but this couldn't be used day to day.  Moreover, the cost and development resources to make it work would be unjustifiable, even it could be done.

It's absolutely vital that Hammerhead moves to a reasonably current version of Android - 12 should be a bare minimum to target.  But that *needs* to happen for the K3.  And I hope it is happening, otherwise the conspicuous absence of updates and improvement on the K2 for the last 9-12 months becomes very questionable.  If not a new version of Android and K3, then where on earth is the development cycle going?  Potentially the greatest asset besides better performance and access to newer more efficient hardware is that a new version of Android can bring voice actuated commands ... this would be a huge asset and USP over the competition.
