Airplane Mode

I see a few others have previously commented on airplane mode not really working as expected. I just wanted to ask what it actually does? How come I can have airplane mode on but wifi and sensors still connect? I thought all form of transmissions would be cut in airplane mode (which would be useful to save battery when looking at stats etc) but it just doesn't seem to work, unless it only affects SIM data, which I won't notice as I don't have a SIM installed. I can't find any knowledge base articles or FAQs on this. Short story: I'm a user. To me the airplane mode button is broken/bugged/does nothing. This doesn't look good to non-tech-trained customers like me.

My understanding is that the sensors are not in two way communication, ( pairing data only?) so shouldn't be affected.

Varia light control and Cell phone connections may be turned off, so you would need to check that.

Market penetration of either is not great, so Airplane mode is like many of the little used feature creep functions there only to impress Marketing and 4 of the customers. /s

Thanks for the reply Richard. What you say makes some sense, however I still don't understand why wifi (a two-way connection) still works in airplane mode? It seems the K2 always wants to default to wifi 'on'. I switch wifi off before a ride but as soon as I finish riding wifi is enabled again automatically. I'm really pleased with the unit overall but this is one of the things which just drives me a bit nuts (I switched it off, so it should stay off!).
