Garmin Varia Radar Battery Saving
I’m often on long rides, so long that my Varia’s battery taps out. To avoid this, I turn off the light on lonely gravel paths or in clear visibility to save battery, but keep the radar on.
Is there a way to set up the Karoo2 to automatically turn on the light when it detects a vehicle from behind and turn it off when it’s gone? Sounds logical, right?
Currently when a car is detected, a warning bar appears on the display. When it’s gone, the warning bar turns off. Classic “If-Then” situation.
So, why not have the display show the warning bar and only flash the fast light of the varia unit to alert the driver when a car is detected, and turn off the light and the bar when it’s gone?
This could certainly save some battery life.

As a big fan of the Karoo, I’ve also got the latest model. I get that not all requests can be met right away and I’m critical of the constant demands and complaints in the forum. I think they’re sometimes out of line. What bugs me is the lack of response from the support. I’d rather hear: “We think it’s a bad idea, we’re not going to do it”, instead of no feedback and always being in standby mode as a customer. The same goes for the media player post or the rerouting - I’d love it, I’d like to have it, but there’s no response. This isn’t criticism, but a suggestion for the support to use and moderate this very active community. If this happened, the outbursts and over-the-top criticism from some members wouldn’t happen so often.

@ttalonso
I submitted this request/suggestion just a month ago, not two years back. In my opinion, it’s not that they’re not listening, but rather that they’re addressing things at their own pace. There are likely legal complications with certain subjects, such as Di2-Shimano and specific interests of SRAM as new owners, that we’re not aware of. Several long-awaited features have already been rolled out. They may not always align perfectly with the expectations, but they’re close enough to make us feel heard. As I’ve mentioned before, I miss the communication and the sense of being included in this journey and actively contributing to it. At the moment, it feels more like being a passenger, hoping that the driver up front knows what he’s doing. -
@Galeb. I uploaded this request 3 years ago and it was forgotten by some post..
I do ultradistance and this functionality would be ideal for us.
The initial response from some users was "for safety", but if they allow you to keep the light off, that response makes no sense. If I find the post I'll share it with you, but there are like 100 posts with Varia themes
