Unfortunately, I believe thats an apple thing. Apple won't allow health data to be shared in this way.

Exactly, Apple does not allow this kind of BLE functionality. There are certain apps which can bridge the signal to your bike computer and mask itself as a HR strap but I havent found one which is really reliable and not buggy.

What I do is recording the workout on my Watch in addition to the bike computer (using WorkoutDoors or Apple Fitness) which can also record power data. I usually still upload my Karoo data to strava (without HR data) and use the Apple Watch tracking just for Apple health metrics, has the nice benefit of having a backup should one of your devices fail.

Apart from that, a real heartrate strap is more accurate than the apple watch anyway, especially in more challenging weather where the AW has been spotty for me at times.

It is not true that a heart rate strap is more accurate than the Apple Watch. This has been tested many times and been shown to be not true.

Thanks for saying that Darwinia. It is also not relevant to the conversation whenever this gets brought up because the whole point is the convenience of having the watch already on and measuring the data.

I can use the Strava app and it will have my heart rate, power meter, cadence, etc. There is no reason that Hammerhead could not have a Karoo app that is sharing the HR data with the bike computer. They just don't want to spend the development time on it.

I really want nothing to do with Strava as an app due to privacy concerns and how they just cut off many 3rd party software services. They want to be a a form of social media and that is not going to happen. They seem to think that once our data is in strava it’s now their data to do what they want with. I really want to like the Karoo but lack of apple health integration, really poor performance of the climbing function which is way less sensitive than Garmin, no way to estimate calories without a power meter, and other lack of basic functionality mean I went back to a Garmin 840 and my Karoo 3 is now on Craigslist. Too bad really.

Here is an NIH research piece on accuracy of the Apple Watch heart rate monitoring.

    Hello,

We understand the convenience of using your Apple Watch as a heart rate monitor directly with the Karoo.

Currently, the Karoo does not natively support real-time heart rate data transmission from the Apple Watch due to compatibility limitations. The Apple Watch primarily uses BLE to broadcast heart rate data, but this functionality is often restricted to specific apps or devices within the Apple system.

To display your Apple Watch heart rate on the Karoo in real-time, you can explore third-party apps like HeartCast or Watch Link, which act as intermediaries to broadcast heart rate data from the Apple Watch to devices like the Karoo. These apps require setup on your Apple Watch and pairing with the Karoo as an external heart rate monitor.

We value your feedback and understand the importance of seamless integration. We’ll pass your suggestion to our development team for future consideration.
