Using Helium mobile for SIM?

Helium Mobile (https://support.hellohelium.com) is coming out with a free plan that, on its face, seems better than the FreedomPop plan I had been using (until they started, IMO, inflating the data that the Karoo was using).

However, it seems that the plan requires loading an app to activate. So I guess that would have to be sideloaded, if it even works with the Android version that Karoo 2 runs on.

Anyone have a guess as to whether it would be workable?

  I tried sideloading the app but got an error message that its SDK is v27 and Karoo Extensions needs v30. I'm not a developer but you might ask for it in the Extensions forum, or Helium if it plans to update app to v30 SDK. I don't know if that is an easy fix or not.
