Hammerhead uses OpenStreetMap data so you can edit the map yourself https://www.openstreetmap.org/ , you’ll want to record GPS tracks of the trails you want to add and then add the actual trails based on those. Your changes should then appear on the Karoo in the next map update (a couple of times per year) or first the one after that if you happen to have poor luck with your timing.

Magnificent. Thank you Anna. Iv had a look, and will add a raft of trails to Openstreetmaps in the next couple of days.

Anyone at Hammerhead able to tell me roughly when the next upload from Openstreetmaps will occur? So I have an Idea to get all the local maps up to date.

It would be better to have possibility of loading trail as a rout. Eg. in OsmAnd application you can see trails on the map, if you click on the trail, additional info will displayed and you can use this trail as a rout by select 'follow on route' like on every other route.
Unfortunately, the HH planner is very poor. Nothing is active on the map, nothing can be checked. We can't get any information about a visible element of the map - what is this shop? what is this monument? what is this route? All these are just ordinary drawings on the map and you have to use other applications to design anything.

Hi Fraser, we typically release the map data updates twice a year. The last update was in September, so you can expect the next release in approximately 7 to 8 months.

Thanks for that Bhagyashree.  So iv got plenty of time to get the local trails up to date.  There are a couple of new ones under construction currently that will likely be completed before the next round of updates, so il get those in there as well.

Gregory, I must say if I want to go into detail like that, I'm more likely to look at Google Maps. Then you get all the reviews etc.. I'm not sure, but I think it might be possible to side-load google maps onto the Karoo?  Problem is though, that iv found its that Google Maps route mapping for cycling is atrocious.  Its  tried to direct me onto a motorway on-ramp more than once   Maybe put a quad-lock on your phone and have the Karoo and phone running concurrently if you want both options?

Hi Fraser, It’s great to hear you’ll be adding the new local trails ahead of the next round! Regarding Google Maps: yes, it is technically possible to sideload the app onto the Karoo. However, please note that we don’t officially support third-party applications, including Google Maps. We only support sideloaded apps that are available through the official GitHub link. That said, you’re welcome to try it if you're comfortable with sideloading.

Iv been beavering away in the background adding lots and lots of missing trails from OSm 😊.

Another question. I notice that when I use the HH Dashboard app, I get more trails than shown on the Karoo itself? So does that mean I should be able to create a route on the dashboard, that will work on the head unit?

The other question is that there are several cycle trails alongside roads, that I try to select a route along, but no matter what the settings the Dashboard app won't let me select the trail? Is this due to the trail not been on the Karoo itself?

Hi Fraser, Thanks so much for adding trails to OSM, that's really awesome! Yes, routes created on the Dashboard will work on your Karoo. The Maps on Dashboard and Karoo are based on OSM and the routing is offered from Valhalla. Also, if a trail isn’t letting you route along it, it’s likely because it’s not marked as a cycle path in OSM yet, so if a trail isn’t tagged correctly in OSM (e.g, missing highway=Cycleway or similar attributes), the Dashboard might not recognize it for routing.

I think I see what is happening. It's letting me route to trails shown when the basement is set to Cycling....but when I turn it to OCM (not sure what that means) it displays the trails iv added, but won't allow routing along them 🥺.

That's a bit of a pity. I'm guessing we have to wait until the next round of map updates, before these new trails can be selected as part of a route?
