Second Map screen
PlannedHi, its been 4 monthts now, several updates. Any news on the possibility to get more then just one mapscreen per profile, each with different data?
It would be great, to get a second editable mapscreen in one profile. So i can put 4 datascreens on one mapscreen, and on a second mapscreen maybe only 2 datascreens for example or the full map.
Now i can just have 1 Mapscreen with or without datascreens per profile and its not ideal.

I just received my Karoo 2 and must say I'm a little set back that you can only have one map card per profile. It comes pre-loaded with a profile called "Got Hills?" which is fine, but why would I want the elevation profile to be shown throughout my ride? Is it on the roadmap to add the function to add more than one map card?

Hey all.
I would like to inform you that we can consider the dual map screen, but on the other hand, we have challenges that we are aware of. These are:
1. High battery drain due to two maps running on the navigation
2. There is a higher possibility of software crashesHowever, once these are controlled and we have worked on these, we would certainly bring this on the Karoo. However, until then we have taken your suggestions and we will certainly look into them.

Aghishek, thanks for the update.
To be clear, I would not expect a screen with two simultaneous maps. I just want to be able to swap between different views that include a single map:
- screen 1: map + upcoming elevation
- screen 2: map + speed and distance
- screen 3: just the map
and so on
I come from many years of various Garmin Edge, and take this for granted...
-
I also want something similar to Ola. As it stands the Karoo is not very useable for me and remains in its box. I usually cycle in very hilly terrain and go long distances following a preloaded route, so would like the option to have map+speed+average speed+elevation data+time/distance to end of route + SRAM information available to be toggled as a bare minimum. Something which my Garmin 1030 for all its countless faults enables me to do.
-
Small deviation to Ola's suggestion: I would love one screen with 2 datafields + large map, and another screen with 4 datafields and smaller map.
That way; if I approach a hard to navigate section, I have a larger screen, while once I am cruising, I get more (and different) data fields on

I would 100% agree a Second Map is a must have feature that you should implement mid term. For the interims a suggestion which you can implement w/o having to overcome the CPU load/batterie drain when having 2 maps running issue.
Ask your riders - If you are riding greater tours time by time you need a full screen map during your ride -but- mostly you like to have both map and data points. So, may you consider a toggle on/of for the data point fields on the map view. This won't be perfect but I would guess it will address the majority of above statements.

@Arjankeizer - in his post from 6 days ago Abhishek Anand from the Karoo Team post that the second map is causing battery drain (which implies a high CPU load as this goes together) so this appears to be one of the key reasons why this feature is missing since a year - as this request is a year old it implies it's a Karoo 1 problem for sure and I can confirm that on Karoo 2 it is the same as I got my this week and that's why I'm joining this discussion thread...
-
@Mike Becker - I have to think that Abhishek must have misunderstood the request. It is not for two concurrent maps on the same screen - which would certainly drain the battery - it is the ability to switch between multiple screens that feature a single map and optional datafields one way or another.
As much as I appreciate the fact that there is a Community around the development, I get the sense that we are talking to engineers and not cyclists. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to have the ability to do this as well, but it would be great if there were more actual Product Manager (assuming that they are passionate about cycling) involvement here.

Seriously upvoting this issue! As Hammerhead is really focusing so hard on navigation with the Karoo, it would help to make the gorgeous map and screen stand out even more.
Seems like the most important thing if you buy a bike GPS is the mapping, so kinda make sense you want it on multiple screens and layouts.
Go Hammerhead!

+1
I opened another thread and i was told this was already requested here.
So add another user to the list. I would also like to have two map cards in the same profile:
Say you use the got hills profile:
1 Card one: map + upcoming elevation
2 Card two: map + couple metrics (speed, distance, heart rate for example)
3 Card three: metrics only (i have 8 metrics data card i think)
The reason for my request is that sometimes i wanna see the upcoming elevation but sometimes i just wanna see a bigger map with smaller metrics (speed/distance/hear rate/altitude). During the same ride i mean.

Hey All,
Thank you for sharing your suggestions here :) I have made a note to have this taken further to my product team. We do have this in our list for improvements & additions but there are other features that do take up a higher priority (better visibility, Improving data accuracy such as elevation, etc) at this juncture and we are doing our best checking off each of them :)
We can't thank you guys enough for bringing the best out of the Karoo 2 :)

Yes, I really want to be able to add _more than one_ screen to a profile that has a map. My specific use case would be to have a screen with a large map (so that my big fingers can zoom/pan easier) and then a screen with a smaller map just for reference along with other data fields.
