    Hey everyone,

There is no denying the fact that how useful it could be for riders to have an option to import POIs from the GPX files. We have this feature already in our Roadmap and we have kick-started this project by enabling Dashboard to create points of interest (POI). More features will be followed in the upcoming updates.

I've just started playing with this.  I don't have a paid account with RWGPS so I can't add POI's to my routes there.  I don't understand why it's specific to them (you folks are invested in them?).  I routinely edit my KML and GPX files and presumably could edit any XML style file you get from RWGPS.  Tell us what you're looking for in the RWGPS format and I'll get it to you.  But you need to allow us to pass you the file through other than just a URL.

Perhaps you do it because you think it gives you a clean format that doesn't require extensive parsing.  But most other apps allow various GPS formats from other sources.  You can too....

Secondly.  I added a couple of POI's to an existing short local route I made up in the Karoo dashboard.  And it downloads and shows the POI's on the Karoo.  But without the names.  Is this the norm and a needed update or am I doing something wrong?

Well, I have a GPX file with several POI on them. I have no ideia where that file was generated but only the first 2 POI are imported. What need to be changed in the file to be able to import them all? Only the "Tamazouzte" is imported from these. Or at least how to add a poi in route planner using coordinates?

    Hi Rui,

Have you added the POIs from the Dashboard or was the Route imported from RWGPS?

Sorry for the late reply. If I remember correctly I was importing from the dashboard. Later I realized the same poi were shown in all imported files, it was a mess that I did not understood. Ended up importing everything into RWGPS and then into Hammerhead.

    Hey HH Team,

10 months and a Karoo version later: what's the status of this important feature update? How far is the Roadmap and how long will it exactly take to fully implement the POI feature?

And here we are another year later - lots of improvements for racers, tons of really cool features I'll never use and no progress at all for something as simple (and at the core of what I bought a Karoo for in the first place) as a simple GPX import of POIs from existing sources like Adventure Cycling!

I'd even accept the ability to directly enter the GPS coordinates manually to locate POIs on the dashboard - a simple, though tedious task since the GPX file entries are simple text files! Even if you can't directly import icon references or POI type, the GPS coordinates and POI name are clearly labeled in the file's markup tags.

This is super basic programming. Why is it still "on the roadmap" after more than 2 years???

I'm doing longer brevet-style rides where I have to take pictures or solve puzzles at the checkpoints. These checkpoints are included as waypoints in the gpx the organizers of those rides send out. But they don't appear on the map after importing them on the Karoo 2. No matter if I import via Komoot or upload the gpx directly to the dashboard.

It would be really nice to have waypoints included in gpx files also show up on the Karoo map while riding. Please finally implement that basic feature which has been long asked for.

Import it first into RWGPS. Then pin it there. Link your hammerhead account to your RWGPS account. Bring up the routes page. On the far right where it says newest there's a sync button.
Click it. Since you've pinned it hammerhead will download it to your routes. Syncing the Karoo will in turn sync it there.

It's clumsy and you don't get all the text. But it works.

While this is not a solution but a workaround, it isn't even a good workaround as importing on RWGPS is possible on paid accounts only. And there's no way I'll pay for a service that I don't use otherwise just for this. Even more so as having waypoints in GPX files is really basic functionality.

There is no one here that doesn't agree with you. I was just pointing out the workaround in case you were desperate for your upcoming event. RWGPS will give you a trial of their paid version.

I went ahead and bought one anyway. I've found their web version excellent for route creation and use it frequently. Particularly the heatmaps function. It's one of the few apps that actually let's you make and store poi's for offline use. Komoot makes a hash of this and hammerhead doesn't even try. It's also a handy repository for my rides and contributes to the heat maps database. It's hugely better than anything hammerhead has to offer. I simply use the Karoo for tracking and following the map and that's it. I've given up completely on their supporting software.

Has this feature happened yet? I ask, because some of the comments above seem to indicate it has, yet it doesn't seem to show POIs on my K2 have been imported from RWGPS (and I have a paid account). Adding POIs on Dashboard Routes is *very* kludgey as it seems to have to be done on the MAP, where mileage is only shown if you move along the Elevation chart. So functionally, it's either useless, or I'm not doing something right.

    Hi John,

the POI Import from RWGPS works only, when you import the route over the Hammerhead brower extention function

@franz, thanks. I tried that, but it doesn't seem to work. At least the POIs aren't showing in Db.....

@John: Could you please share the URL of the Route from RWGPS that includes the POIs? Please share the Route URL at support @hammerhead.io and mention my name in the email description.

Hello, I'm also waiting for this option. Currently I do most of my planning in Komoot because of it's great POI database with all interesting places to visit etc. To have Komoot's highlights in Karoo I have to:

    * plan a route in Komoot

    * export route gpx with highlights as POI/wpt with KomootGPX python script (available at github) - because on the other hand komoot doesn't include them on standard export :(

    * import the gpx to RideWithGPS (POIs are imported)

    * pin the route in RWGPS (only pinned routes are synchronized)

    * sync RideWithGPS with Karoo dashboard (fortunately - it works even if gpx export with POIs is not supported on free RWGPS accounts)

    * hope that original track is not broken along the way

    Hi,

I've got several POI database of Spain water fountains to add to Karro account, more than 2000 POIs. Do I have to add it one by one?

Mariano.  Putting POI's on your account can be done but best as a POI's on a route.  But you say 2000 waterfountains.  It seems a lot.   You should probably just put in the ones that you expect to use for some route you're doing.  I would recommend you become an openstreetmaps editor and put them in there.  Much more useful overall.  Hammerhead maps are based on the openstreetmaps database and whatever is in there will eventually fall into a karoo map.

    Thanks Daniel.

I don't want to spend time on it before every ride, I'm usually ride 15.000 km a year, and try not to repeat paths. During summer it's important to spot water fountains. I've downloaded a GPX file from people who worked on it, and I just want to do it at once and forever. It doesn't seems to be complicated...but it's hammerhead we are talking about...they do everything that other brands did 5 years ago almost impossible to do.

Use RWGPS. import you points. Create your route and then pin it. When it sync's to the karoo it'll have them all. RWGPS won't export the route and points together. So you must do it as a link. Then it'll show on the karoo
