Hi Carl, This feature is in fact in our Roadmap and we can hope to explore this feature soon on Karoo. Right now, the Product team is working on the features that are in the top of the priority list and that is the reason why I cannot share you a dedicated timeline at this moment.

That's great to know that it's on your roadmap Hari. I use the Karoo more for navigation needs on bikepacking trips (latest one in a remote part of Northern Laos.. in February just ahead if the covid 19 pandemic) and less for performance stats so the latest round of updates has been less interesting for me. But it's impressive how you guys continue to improve the device and I really love how easy it is to operate vs my Garmin. Keep at it and I'm nothing if not patient. Thanks for your quick reply. Cheers, Carl

    Bonjour,

    bringing up this old theme!

    Hallo,

is it already possible to mark some place on the headunit map during a ride and store it as POI?

I am thinking about public drinking water stations.

At the moment I use Komoot and I set highlights for every drinking water Station that I find on my rides.

At home I check the OCM if they already exist, if not I add them to the map.

Now as owner of an KAROO2 I would like to forget about Komoot on my smart phone and use only the headunit during a ride.

Imagine what you could do if the complete OCM map with all details (selected by the dashboard) would be available on the headunit and the long time ago feature request “Approach Alarm for POI” https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/community/posts/360039497653-Approach-alarm-for-POI

would work. (As far as I know this feature is available on Garmin devices)

You are navigating on a route during an hot summer day, you get an alarm that somewhere nearby (2km or so, adjustable) there is an waterstation (with pointer on the headunits map)

You can check your bottles and decide if you want to be routed to the station and back on track or if you continue your planed ride.

    Therefor three things are needed:

    • Creating POI during ride on the headunit. After ride import to the dashboard or manual to OCM
    • Approach Alarm for POI with hints on the headunits map
    • Routing on the shortest possible way to the POI and back to planned track.

    Best regards!

    Christian

I would also like to have the option of creating POI’s, on my Karoo, during a ride. I know that we can look-up an address or business when our Karoo is connected to the Internet via WIFI or cellular connections, but we have to create a route, on the Karoo, from the current position to the POI. This can add up to a lot short Routes that I don’t really want cluttering up my routes page. If we could simply create a POI, then route to it like we now do with stored POI’s, would be much better in my opinion.

And a search function for POI’s, like we now haves for routes, would be very useful. Now we have to pan around on the map to locate a POI, which is very difficult if you are not sure which direction to look.

It's one year later since my POI feature request so I'll join Johnny and Christian to renew my request for this basic navigation function. Your feature upgrades have been pretty great re the general operation of the unit and the bike performance stats functions but not much on the navigation side. Come on Karoo... help us bikepackers out a bit. Thanks Carl

I also add to the commissioning of this functionality (which was "promised" a year ago) - simple storage and subsequent navigation to the created POI. Navigation while driving on the Karoo is absolutely great, but this missing feature annoys me a lot. For example - I drive to a lesser known destination, then I simply want to "navigate" to a favorite restaurant towards the house (which I should have stored in my own POI) and I can't. I have to create a complicated navigation to the address, or search by scrolling on the map. On the route page, it would certainly be possible to create a section of only your own POIs and navigate to them from any destination "with one click". Otherwise, I thank the Karoo team for their work - Karoo 2 is for me unrivaled navigation, comparable to "telephone" navigation such as Waze, Mapy.cz, etc. Jiri

Features like this really need to happen - there is so much promise to the mapping side of Karoo 2 but unfortunately a lot of simple but very useful features seem to be ignored in development as the team seems to concentrate on performance cycling.  Route finding is good, but for anyone wanted to explore further afield there is so much potenital which is not being exploited.  Please listen to us Hammerhead!

It's now been two years since we were told it was on your roadmap and still this super basic nav function which is very useful for us bikepackers and cycle tourers is missing. I still love the unit enough to have just purchased the Karoo 2 but how about showing the nav side of the functionality some love. We've been waiting two years. Come on guys and help us out.

As a mountain-biker I have also asked for this feature looong time ago... As for exploring new terrain and technical trail entry points it should be there for a 400 dollar device. My cheap almost 20 year old Garmin has this already.

    Please make this happen!!!

I am a member of the Twin Cities Bicycling Club, which uses Ride with GPS (RWGPS) for route creation, navigation and challenges. Recently, a representative from RWGPS contacted me to see if I was interested in being a partner in a RWGPS Scavenger Hunt in the Twin Cities. This is what I was tasked to do:

    1. Think of about 10 locations around the city, then put those locations into a route (could be POIs, or give us lat/long coordinates and we can handle for you)
    2. Write a very brief description for each spot (or cryptic descriptive details on each one)
    3. Then on Friday night before the scavenger hunt, go out and stash the bags of prizes (we'll send you them pre-packaged and waterproofed)
    4. Share it on Saturday, and maybe get some buzz going before the Saturday it happens

I realized that I couldn’t accomplish step 1 with my Karoo 2 and I would have to use my Garmin Fenix for this task. This is a real shame, because any GPS device should have the capability to save locations!

This feature has been requested on at least two other Hammerhead Community posts:

    https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/community/posts/1260803990729

    https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/community/posts/360051207794-Save-my-location-option-

@Hari - You answered the original post on this two years ago. Can you bring it up with the Hammerhead developers again? Thanks for considering this request.

Useful feature request indeed - we have a lot of blocked MTB trails currently due to bugs having killed a lot of trees, and they keep falling. Would love to mark these POIs en route!

As part of the ongoing POI revamp, it would be great to be able to add POIs on device. In terms of implementation, this could just be an added button in the new pin drop menu, where instead of "navigate to" it says "add POI" and then lets you choose a name.

@Pit: This is a feature which is already in our plan and we expect to see this on Karoo 2 in the near term.

Nice to hear Hari! Any update on wether POIs will be searchable, or even address search will be implemented as part of the POI overhaul?

I hope this feature, when it gets added, will work with the Karoo 1 as well!  It is really needed.

So, is this going to be released in the next weeks? I just bought a Karoo 2, and I really like it. Just disapointed that you can only drop a pin, and not have a search bar.

Hi Ricardo, yes, it is likely to be released this Thursday unless there is a critical bug found at the last moment.

I just have updated on my Karoo1. You're able to drop a pin as a POI on your map.
I will have to test it on my next ride

Does the new update allows now to import .gpx with embedded POI  directly over the Dashboard (without detour over ridewithgps) too, or does this other half of the POI issue still needs to be fixed?

@Tim: This feature is not yet released and as of now, the import of POIs is only available from RWGPS.

@Evgeny: Along with RwGPS, we have added support for syncing POI's from Strava for the starred routes. May I know which platform you are using to create Routes as this function of importing POI's along with Route to Dashboard is available through only RwGPS and Strava now?

You cannot add ready-made tracks to RwGPS, only display them. For the rest you need a paid subscription. This doesn't suit me.
    I use Nakarte.me and BaseCamp.

@Evgeny: I understand your use case. As of now, Veloviewer is the only platform through which POIs can be imported to the Dashboard through GPX files. We do have plans to extend this capability with other platforms but sorry that we do not have a timeline to share with you right now.
