Feature request: Real gear indication for electronic shifting
AnsweredI have a shimano di2 and I think it is very useful to have the real gear indication, like 53-11, 53-13... now is showing 1-1, 1-3. It will be very easy to read the real combination, and we could configure it with predefined templates for shimano cassettes or other brands (11-28, 11-30...). You already have the shifting indication, it is a matter of associate a real gear number with the current indicators (not much costly on programming terms, saving that data on the profile).

Hey Ruben,
I have forwarded your feature improvement request to the Software Team.
Just to clarify a bit more, it isn’t so much about the urgency, but more of the work required from different teams. That is what we are doing right now. We follow a structured workflow to pull a feature into the software pipeline. This involves discovering the Pros and Cons from competitors, researching from customer interviews, designing, and then when all these are finalized, it will be moved to development.
We prioritize each feature based on the number of user requests, impact on current customer base, usability, market value, etc.
Please keep providing regular insights and suggestions. We appreciate you taking the time to do so.

As a previous Edge 810 user, I was getting uses also to the real gear indication! It would be great to edit your cassette to the real one installed e.g; 12-25 11T or customize. Same goes for the chainring combo. now I have to 'remember' that No 4 is my 15... not really actual in current age of digitalization/integration. So if Garmin could pull this off since beginning of Di2 integration in the year 2014.... Hammerhead should be able to do this in the blink of an eye....

I wanted to follow up on the above request. Recently bought a Karoo 2 and am very happy with it...BUT...My Garmin did show the exact gears I was using ....it was really helpful. The current shifting display is better than nothing at all, but with a such a new , cutting edge device, I was disappointed actual gear ratios are not available. As mentioned, Garmin has had this for years.
Let's make it happen Hammerhead!
Thanks...Andrew

I don't think this should get high priority. There are a lot of requests more urgent. Knowing the exact number of teeth doesn't give essential information. Knowing the position of the chain is important, since it tells you how many shifts are left up or down.
I would like to add: instead of displaying the combination like 50-15 it is maybe of more value to show the gain in meters per revolution. That gives better metrics.

This is also something I would really like!
A few advantages of showing the real gear:- You get to know your material more. You learn what a 28 feels like, or a 15, and when you buy a new cassette, it's easier for you to know which gears you actually need. If you just show me 2-07, I have no idea what gear that actually is!
- When talking with your mates, you have a common language that everyone understands. "Today I was flying! I was climbing on my 25!". If you say "I was climbing on my 9th", they have no clue what you are talking about!
- It lets you see if there is any issue with your cassette that you could change. I used to have a garmin that would show me this, and I noticed I was always stuck between two gears between the 15 and the 17, so I bought a cassette with a 16. If I only had the index, I wouldn't have known I was missing a gap there, it would only have shown 6th gear and 7th gear
Now I can probably do the mapping in my head (9th gear = 25, etc.), but why not have the software do it.
Thanks!
