Hey Teun. We will be having an adapter that can be used both ways. You can leave it on the mount or on the Karoo 2.
Please clarify if you are meaning something different here.

Yes slightly different. I mean an adapter which is screwed onto the foot, like in the picture where the adapter is separated by unscrewing the two 2.5MM allen keys.

Thus making the whole thing look more premium and providing a more stable base for the Karoo (in that order)

I had that idea and used the upper part of the mount Hammerhead shipped with the Karoo 2 on a K-Edge IHS mount. I still have to work on the right sizes for the attaching screws and if I need to drill out the threads on either the Karoo2 mountint plate or the aluminum K-Edge base, but preliminary testing indicates it could be a good solution. Photos below.

Tuen, I appreciate your thoughts and suggestion for the ease of removal of the Karoo 2 unit from the mount without leaving the foot behind.

Jeffery, you have really made amazing engineering on your K-edge mount.

However, I would like to inform you that we have the Karoo 2 bracket designed for robustness and compatibility of Karoo 2 on the 31.8 mm handlebar. However, for the nonstandard handlebar, we have defined the quarter-turn adapter which fits most of the Garmin mounts.

Tuen, similar to your thoughts, we have the quarter-turn adapter which can be fitted at the back of Karoo 2. You can attach the unit to the bracket and can remove it anytime with the ease. The adapter will be at the back of the Karoo 2. With no screws involved, you can remove the adapter anytime you want to. I am sure that would help you not use any tool if you need the adapter to leave the unit.

The quarter-turn adapter isn't snug enough in most mounts. The wiggling is annoying and the device turns when you try and operate the Karoo 2 buttons. You need to rework the adapter or provide better options with the native mounting system. Many bikes can't use the supplied native mount.

@Jeffrey: We have certainly taken your feedback on the quarter-turn adapter and we would like to inform you that we will ensure this would go to our Hardware team to look into this issue. We really appreciate your insight on the issue.

Besides, here is an article which I am sure would be helpful for all those who are looking for the bracket for their nonstandard handlebar (not 31.8mm) to mount their Karoo 2 - https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/articles/360051593114--Compatible-Aero-Non-standard-handlebar-mounts

    Hi Jeffrey,

at the time of posting my request I had no definite mount yet - but your solution definitely looks like the way to go 👍

I agree with you on the limited versatility of the currently offered solution. Saw it on a friend’s bike and there is some room for improvement on anything other than a standard 31.8mm handlebar.

will be looking into a 3d printed model myself once I receive my own K2, needs to be sturdy enough but that can be tested :-)

    Hi Abishek,

Thanks for responding. The solution provided with the adapter is ok but not yet ideal as it does not improve the stability of the Garmin quarter-turn mount. The regular mount is perfect in that sense, but the adapter definitely is not.

A screw-on solution like Jeffrey showed is much more stable as it will provide a bigger platform for the plate, and thus the K2, to sit on.

Do hammerhead provide specifications for third-parties to make fitting mounts? It would make my printing work a lot easier...

Follow-up on my adaptation of the mount. I bought a couple of new screws to attach the Karoo 2 mount plate to the K-Edge IHS mount. They were easily available at my local hardware store - M3-0.50 8mm. I just screwed them from the bottom of the K-Edge aluminum mount and then into the Karoo 2 plate (having detached it from the mount supplied by Hammerhead). The Karoo 2 fits really securely and detaches easily. I think this would work on many of the K-Edge mounts that use similar Garmin adapters.

    Hi Jeffrey,

This looks really great and this is something I am considering myself. At the moment I have a mount that is bolted to my bike via my stem faceplate bolts -  this then has a Garmin mount on the top and a Go Pro mount on the bottom for my lights. I've had a quick look around and managed to get the parts from places like Amazon and Ebay that will streamline everything nicely!

Thank you for posting and inspiring us to streamline our "dashboards" :)

I gravitated to this topic because I was am looking for more or less the same.

For the guys at Hammerhead; we want the new K2 mount, its fantastic. Far better then the quaterlock mount. It feels snug and gives us convidence riding on the ruff stuff. We want to use this mount!
But what we want aswell, is a more versatile solution for not only aerobars, but also attaching lights, camera's and bell's.

https://youtu.be/sLauikW0bI4?t=143 What Jeffrey did, is more or less the same as this guy.

Personally, I am looking for a solution to attach my Bontrager Ion 200 under my K2. In winter, I'm riding with gloves and in the dark. My bell is attached to the handlebar on the left side of the K2, my light is attached on the right side of my Karoo 2. As I am wearing gloves, I want to use the buttons on the K2, but the light (and bell) are obstructing the buttons. My handlebar is full! So therefore I was looking for a way to attach my light (and my bell) beneath the fantastic new K2 mount. So that I can use the buttons on the K2 again. I per se want to use the new mount, because I love it!

What about purchasing a second Quarter-turn Adapter ?  I do not see that as an item that can be ordered in the Hammerhead Shop. I have two bikes, each has a Garmin style mount on it, that I already use with my K1.  The K2 only comes with a single Garmin adapter.  That's going to be a problem. Please advise.

I will definitely welcome that - as well as selling the screw-on plate separately from the entire mount for people who are using k-edge, barfly and such. From the video John posted I gather that is feasible with only a slightly longer set of screws, or even the same ones (they would be sold with the plate in an ideal world ;-) ).

Would be a very nice feature to hook into commercially imo.

Jeffrey,  Question on your mounting.  Did you remove the Garmin "puck" and then screw the Hammerhead plate on to the aluminum mount?  Or just placed on top?  Not sure it sits well on my K-edge as is so was thinking of printing up a filler disc to give the plate a sturdy seat.

I removed the Garmin part and screwed the Karoo 2 mount plate onto the K-Edge aluminum mount. The Karoo fit well and didn't wobble. Unfortunately, the Hammerhead supplied part broke so I used Shapeways to print a couple of new plates (using black PA12) plastic. Cost per part was $10. So far, it's working great.

Thank you for clarifying.  I'm going to print a pad to have it sit on.  Keep things nice and flat.  Surprised to hear it break so soon.  Not sure the resin being used on the flex plate but a Delrin type should be a good choice and would think plenty strong for this application.  Help with the smoothness of install and removal too.  I'm actually a fan of the new design but it could use more variety and options.

I don't think a plate is necessary. I used the .stl file someone posted (kk2_mounting_plate) and it seems to sit pretty flush in the K-edge recess. I don't know how Delrin compares to PA12, but the parts I received seem pretty well finished give a good click in and easy click out.

    This is an interesting thread.

Originally, I was planning on attaching the K-Edge GoPro Combo mount to the underside of the supplied Hammerhead Karoo 2 mount (as described in one of the other topics here).

But I've been browsing the various K-Edge Combo Mounts with a view to replacing the mount that was supplied with my Karoo 2. I plan to remove the Garmin puck and replace it with the Hammerhead puck, as Jeffrey has done above. I want to mount a Lezyne front light underneath using the GoPro mount on the K-Edge Combo mounts.

I don't have a requirement for the IHS as my bars are standard 31.8mm. Do you think this one would be suitable?

Or is it likely to be too long?

    Nice Spurcycle bell, too, Jeffrey.

@Jeffrey - Great solution.  After reading your post, I ordered M3-0.50 8mm connecting screws and Karoo 2 plate connected perfectly to my k-edge garmin mount (after removal of garmin plate).  I have several bikes so would like to do this a few more times.  You mention that you used Shapeways to print a couple of new plates using "a .stl file someone posted (kk2_mounting_plate)."  Could you provide a link or some additional detail?  Thanks...and appreciate the very clever approach on this. Just uploaded a model to Thingiverse. It is not a complete mount but it has the part that interfaces with the factory clamp and follows the same design as the provided mount but will connect to a straight bike mount.

    @Jeffrey

I did the exact same thing you did...and had the exact same problem! The mount "puck" arm breaks after only a few uses when unmounting the K2. I think when the puck isn't reinforced by the Karoo2 base it is subject to a fair amount of lateral force. I'd be interested too in the kk2_mounting_plate file you found. I haven't been able to locate it!

If the 3D printed copies you commissioned are stronger, I'd love to know about it. Thanks in advance.

I created a 3D printable adapter for the Canondale SystemBar computer mount. It replaces the quarter turn socket on the mount with the included Karoo 2 mount.
