Battery Life
AnsweredHi,
I recently updated the software on my Karoo Hammerhead to Build Version: 1.179.961.3
Following this update the battery life following a full charge to 100% has dropped from ~8 hours to ~2.5 - 3 hours.
I've not changed any other settings on the unit so I assume the reduction in battery life is due to the last update.
Can you let me know how to roll-back the last update and when a fix will be available.
Thanks
Ben

Hey Ben. Sorry to hear about your issues with the battery drain on your Karoo. I would certainly assist you with the issue.
Unfortunately, we do not have the option to go back to the previous software versions. Besides, I would like to inform you that we have not touched on the area of battery enhancement in our latest software release. I am sure that the latest update would not be a reason for the high battery drain on your unit.
It would be great if you can share the FIT file of the ride where you have faced this issue to our official email address support@hammerhead.io. Also, please share the serial number of your Karoo. I certainly would like to look into this issue.

Hi Abhishek,
I have sent the FIT file of today's ride and sent the serial number of my Karoo to support@hammerhead.io
Thanks

"I am certain we will have the end solution to your drain battery issue." We follow with interest.
Can you recommend a battery / charge monitoring software that can be side loaded to help monitor configuration from this end?
Somehow I think you appreciate how this is an issue for many.
Monitoring charging and charge status is a nuisance, and produces disproportionate anxiety during use. My display is so often either erroneous or irrelevant that I do not use it, other than as a "suggestion". I get that there are gobs of variables, but gobs of uncontrolled variables usually result in mistrusting results.

Hi Richard,
I meant to update this thread.
The advice I received was as follows:
We suspect it's an issue with the reading from the Battery gauge on the unit. For us to isolate the problem, we want you to perform these steps to re-calibrate the battery gauge:
1. Let the battery die (run to flat)- (To drain the battery fast, you can start a ride on your the Karoo and leave it on the table)
2. Power back on
3. Repeat power-on attempts until it will not turn on (doesn't even show boot animation - 0%)
4.Charge to 100% WITHOUT powering on the Karoo (generally at least 6 hrs, dep. on battery)
5. Once at 100% THEN power it on.
Follow the step 2&3 as it is. A simple power OFF and Power ON would not workThis appears to have solved the issue for me although I've not been able to test during an outdoor ride as we're currently in lock-down because of coronavirus in the UK.
Just to be clear these are the steps I followed:
- Switched auto-pause off
- Started a ride (with auto-pause off the screen is on continuously)
- Ran the battery flat
- Then repeatedly try to power back on until the unit is completely unresponsive (no boot animation)
- Charged to 100%
- Repeated the steps above
Following this procedure the battery life is now ~8 hours again when the unit is running inside. Once lockdown has been lifted I'll test the unit outside and report back.
Hopefully this will be of use for other users of the Karoo who have experienced a similar issue.

To help the procedure:
on #3 run battery flat in " bench ride",
then connect to charger ( check charger and cable)
#6 number of attempts before moving on?
Part of the challenge is there are multiple configurations and possible actions that need to be specified before defining and observation or action.
Of note there is no Troubleshooting Protocols to help the Help Guys to have a common starting point, god bless 'em.
Good work
