    Hi,

    Hope you are doing well.

This is a good suggestion and I will certainly take it to our Product team to look into this. Currently, you need to have a power meter connected to see the calorie data. Sorry, we do not have the calorie data to be displayed using the Heart rate monitor.

On the Karoo, currently, the two fields Calories and Calorie Burn Rate are calculated from the Power data and not the Heart Rate data like Garmin. Our calculations are based on Training Peaks and we believe measuring these values from Power (watts) is more accurate than deriving them from Heart Rate (beats per minute).

    Hi

Unfortunately this isn't really allaying my concerns about the capability of the product and how I intend to use it and therefore I am going to cancel. I will keep an eye on things to see if this does develop in time and then I would consider re-ordering the Karoo 2 but for now I don't think I can justify it.

    Thanks for your assistance

    Hi,

I am currently using my Karoo 2 which I received yesterday. While looking at my ride stats I was surprised to find that NO "Calories Burned" field is to be found. I have read through the past comments regarding the need for a power meter to get this metric because you are basing your readouts on the Training Peaks method.

It has been mentioned in previous post replies that consideration will be given to having the Karoo/2 report calories consumed using a heart rate monitor. Some of these post are a year old. Has any headway been made on this front?

I have free riding apps on my phone that can report calories consumed using either a power meter or heart rate monitor. Surely a dedicated cycling computer/navigator can manage to have this utility. If accuracy in reporting is the main concern surely a disclaimer can serve to temper the expectations of the user.

    Thank you for your time,

    Joe

This seems like a no-brainer to add in my opinion. Even if the calorie burn isn't 100% accurate, having a general idea of your calories expended would be really nice. I also agree that a simple disclaimer would suffice as a warning for users using this as a accurate metric.

I agree to add feature with burned calories based on HR. Power meter maybe is more accurate, but a lot of fitnes/casual riders didn’t have power meter. HR has probably almost everybody, from chest or from watch.

Well, I have updated my Karoo 2 with the last software version and I´m very upset because there is nothing abut calories throw heart rate way.  The developers have said that tey would take in count aours suggestions but that´s a lie. I have seen a lot of messages about it, even saying some of us wil change to G+++IN if they don´t aply it.

I´m thinking that the only that developerss want to read is that the screen and the desing are greats, but nothing about OURS NEEDS, or must we buy an expensive powermeter for each of our bikes??

I don´t know what are they playing, but it is very probable that I will change my Karoo2 for any other which give me what I need and not what they want.

Just used my Karoo 2 for the first time since receiving it months ago due to winter time.

I too was disappointed there is no options to view calories burned even when importing .fit file to strava and garmin.
Is there any type of workaround? Other than spending hundreds on a power meter.

Agree, would also like an estimated calories metric based on HR - it's fine that it's not as accurate as using power meter data, but given many more people will have HR than power meters, it would make sense to offer it.

Come on Hammerhead. Why don't you just build this in? There is so much demand for it! It's just a small, simple piece of software. I can't believe you guys don't want to include the mentioned option because it's not accurate enough. I know that this is a rough estimate. That's totally fine for me. Have you perhaps made agreements with a supplier of pedal power meters?

Any update on this? This is part of every head unit, watch or whatever device you can think of! I think this is not worth the discussion tbh.

I assumed that this expensive unit would connect to my watch for heart rate and give me an estimated calorie burn. My Android phone and Mapmyride do this with no fuss. I have had to install 3rd party apps to "hack" the heart rate data from my watch to show as a sensor and calories is not an option. hmmm!

On the plus side - I just climbed my first hill and love the climber display!

    Please sort these niggles out!

hahahahahaha..   I was cancelled by HH once for arguing about this.  There is an extension that does pretty well at it.  I used it for a few months.  The writer of the extension is super responsive and really cares.  But an official HH one?  Thats crazy talk.  The only reason i'm not using it now is I bought power meter pedals

I used the Vin-HkE extension. I like it overall and the developer is super responsive when I asked for a modification to have the calories get written to the .fit file.

Ok, I tried that as well but there was no calories in the fit file. Maybe I missed something in the setup. You are talking about the fit file that I can download in the dashboard?
