K2 cannot be controlled by axs hood buttons

I just learned about this now. The sram axs hood buttons can control the K3 and garmin head units but not the K2. How does that make sense. Also, ki2 extension can be used through shimano hood buttons to control the K2. So if an extension can do this, why isn’t it native for axs and the K2? I think I’ll buy a shimano di2 instead of the new force if that’s the case.
