POI or home navigation
Hello,
On a recent ride, I had to switch from following a route to navigating to a Point of Interest (POI) to meet some friends. Unfortunately, my experience with the Hammerhead’s navigation during this POI guidance was quite poor. Here's what happened:
In my profile setup, I have three profiles: Gravel, MTB, and Road, each with its corresponding preferred surface set (Gravel → gravel, MTB → trail, Road → road).
While using my Gravel profile (with the preferred surface set to gravel), the device routed me via what seemed to be the shortest — but not the smartest — path. I was directed over extremely steep climbs, with my Climber profile showing inclines above 20% . When I manually avoided those sections, the Hammerhead rerouted me again through similarly steep terrain having to hike-a-bike sections.
This makes POI navigation virtually unusable for me — unless Hammerhead introduces a way to cap the maximum incline (e.g., 12–15%) and avoids routes above that threshold as well as certain single tracks which I would prefer to do on my MTB.
Sure, I could switch the preferred surface to “road” to force safer routing, but that defeats the purpose of riding a gravel bike and wanting to stick to gravel paths.
Any thoughts or plans to improve this?
Thanks,
Nardi
