Development of a Karoo App to Integrate Smart Bike Lights

We are a smart cycling accessories manufacturer focused on high-performance lighting systems (front lights, tail lights, radar-lights, etc.). We are currently developing an Android-based application to run on the Karoo bike computer, with the goal of integrating our BLE-enabled smart lights with the AXS ecosystem via Karoo’s SDK and Extension platform.

The main features of the proposed Karoo app include:

1. BLE Light Device Auto-Scan & Reconnect
   The app will automatically discover and maintain stable connections with our BLE-compatible lighting systems (which comply with standard GATT profiles and our own custom services for light control and battery reporting).

2. AXS Bonus Button Integration
   We plan to leverage Karoo’s support for Bonus Button events to trigger light control actions (on/off, mode switch) without needing to interact with the screen mid-ride.

3. Custom GATT Profile Support
   The lights implement proprietary GATT services (e.g., Light Control Point, Mode Index configuration), which we fully document and are open to sharing for verification or integration feedback.

4. Battery Status Display
   Battery percentage and health will be exposed via standard Battery Service (0x180F) and shown in the app’s UI. Notifications will also be supported to alert the user of low battery during a ride.

5. Foreground BLE Service & State Persistence
   The app is designed as a persistent foreground service to ensure reliable control throughout a ride, even during screen off or low-resource scenarios.

6. Multi-Light Device Support
   It supports multiple lights (e.g., front + rear) and allows grouped or independent control.

7. Extension Registration
   We plan to register our app as a Karoo Extension using the karoo-ext framework so it can interact smoothly with the Karoo OS and be accessible during ride sessions.

We would like to confirm:

• Whether these features fall within the scope of your current Extension framework;

• If there are any additional recommendations, integration hooks, or design constraints we should observe;

• Whether the Karoo UI/UX has expectations for Extension-based apps controlling hardware during active rides.

We're happy to share APK builds and source-level integration examples. Your guidance will help us ensure full compatibility with Karoo and a seamless experience for cyclists using both Karoo and SRAM AXS systems.
