It's time for Hammerhead to use the full OpenCycleMaps on the Karoo, please
A few months ago, I received the following information from Hammerhead support in response to a question about POIs: "Our Dashboard utilizes Mapbox as its map data source, while the Karoo device relies on OpenStreetMap (OSM)".
Besides the fact that I don't understand what the purpose of using different data sources for the app and the hardware is supposed to be (maybe that's why some routes from Komoot are changed in the dashboard?), I also don't understand why Hammerhead apparently uses this kind of mix on the Karoo itself?
The maps in the Karoo with their dotted lines for everything that isn't a paved road seem to be based on Mapbox. But the system of cycle routes/paths/network on the Karoo seems to me to be very much based on OSM/OCM (just with different colors). But they only use it for cycle routes/paths/networks, not for trails/MTB (which are orange on OCM).
On the dashboard and in the app you can choose between the mapbox and the OCM layer.
So my wish would be: Please use the OCM as the basis for the maps of the Karoo. In my opinion they are much clearer about paved and unpaved roads than Mapbox.
If for some reason this is not possible, then please display the complete OCM cycle route network on the Karoo maps including the MTP routes/network. This will not solve the dilemma with the dotted lines, but in combination with the Suunto heatmaps it would at least help us a little.
But to be fair: the maps from Garmin, Wahoo (V1 and V2) and Bryton have just as many weaknesses and, for me personally, fewer strengths than the Karoo maps.
