Auto HR zones on Karoo are different to auto HR zones in Strava
I've been looking at my HR as a training data point more recently and I've noticed that with an identical maximum HR set on the Karoo - and the same maximum HR set in Strava - my zones have different zone boundaries.
I don't know if this is expected, as I know there are many different ways to calculate maximum HR, but this means that the zone data I see in Strava does not always match the zone data I see on the Karoo.
As an example, my maximum HR is currently set to 186bpm both on the Karoo and in Strava. But my zones are automatically defined as follows:
Z1
Karoo < 113
Strava < 109
Z2
Karoo 114 - 138
Strava 109 - 145
Z3
Karoo 139 - 157
Strava 145 - 162
Z4
Karoo 158 - 175
Strava 162 - 180
Z5
Karoo 176 - 255
Strava >180
I don't know if this small discrepancy makes a difference overall, but I find the two different zone values confusing.
I'm wondering if it would make sense to have the auto calculation on the Karoo match the algorithm used by Strava to prevent this discrepancy? Appreciate not everybody uses Strava (and Strava's auto calculate algorithm may not be 100% accurate either).
I guess I could just manually update the zones on the Karoo - or in Strava - but I have no idea which one is more accurate.
When I view my HR zones on the Polar web site, I see different zone boundaries again:

So, who is correct? Hammerhead, Strava or Polar? And does it make that much of a difference?

Hi Steve there are different ways to calculate HRzones. So changing the Karoo calculation to Strava doesn't make sense.
Best way is to choose 1 method for your self and do a manually change where a different calculation is used.I have my personal zones via a physical test. These are of course different from all other standard HRzone calculations.

Yes, I thought as much Edgar; thank you for your reply.
I will take a look through the various methods of calculating HR zones and figure out which one is best for me. I will then see if there is value in making my zone thresholds the same in Strava and on the Karoo.
There seems to be a lot of variation in how to calculate maximum HR and the zones (which is why this discrepancy exists, I suppose).
