Displaying a GPX track as-is on the map
I've recently acquired a Karoo 2 and I'm very happy with it. I used it to record my first couple of rides and it worked flawlessly. I only do MTB, no road cycling.
Last weekend I decided to follow a track I was not familiar with. To make a long story short, we ended up having to follow my friend's old Garmin which was displaying the track as it is. The Karoo kept re-routing either because the maps did not include the paths the track followed, or because it decided that an alternative road/track was better.
By reading around this forum and the Internet in general, it seems like there is no support for any of these:
- Loading a GPX file and simply overlaying it on the map, no routing.
- Disabling the re-routing so as to just follow the loaded GPX
- Any similar alternative where I can still see the original GPX, regardless of routing
I'm still very happy with the Karoo 2 and happy to support its development, but since this is an essential feature to my use case I've had to resort to sideloading OsmAnd, at least for the time being.
Posting this with the hopes of getting any information I may have missed, or a confirmation of what I've described having no better solution at the moment.

Currently testing my brand new Karoo 2 and this is the most important issue I just ran into. Haven't yet had the problem of the Karoo not displaying the route correctly (only on my second short test ride with the unit) but already wondered where I could switch off re-routing completely. Turns out - that's not possible. But I deem it an essential function on so many levels (and in fact unearthed quite a few already with several threads in this forum within the first few minutes of looking).
Switching off re-routing completely is the most used way I use cycling computers and found it implemented best in the original Wahoo Elemnt and Elemnt Bolt. Just the Track with the intended direction in which to follow it. No fuss, no surprises - all you need.
Switching off re-routing...
- saves processing power and thus battery- prevents annoying beeps and notifications while paused (sadly current behaviour further draining battery)
- prevents wasted processing power and annoying notifications when all I want is just going intentional off-route to visit a refueling option or taking an obvious shortcut.
- saves the potential pitfall of not seeing that the Karoo 2 did re-route a bit of the track (thankfully you can't normally miss this because of the nice brown line instead of yellow and hopefully this is always the case) while you simply had to stay true to the downloaded course because this is part of a mandatory parcours (and believe me, these are becoming weirder and weirder coming from ultra and gravelracing organizers)
- saves the issue of the original poster of completely f***ing up a downloaded track just because the Karoo's map isn't up to par.
I could go on. So in short: before any tries to make the re-routing of the device any smarter or catching any possible pitfall I strongly suggest giving the user the option of just switching re-routing completely off. In fact - I will test the device further still but It could lead to me having to return it if this isn't addressed promptly.
