Waypoints Management
One of the main features I am missing on may Karoo (compared to Garmin) is, that up to now there is no management of waypoints (or POI, point of interest). Storing and editing POIs (in their own list, managed by a specific app, same as rides, routes and so on) is a very important tool to support quick navigation. Perhaps you are on your ride and want to visit a specific cafe nearby, to navigate to your meeting point with friends from anywhere (so routes are not the solution) or to mark a position where you want to go later. This feature should get be very high priority in my opinion. What do you think?

I miss this feature too.
I want to import Waypoints by .gpx File and send them to the Karoo 2.
On the Device there should be a List.
Also useful : Entering Navigation Destination by GPS Koordinates and Adress.
Adding these Features will Kill all other Navigation Devices on the Market.

I agree POI management would be a significant benefit. Currently I have a dummy Route called * POI which I use to store all my common POI's, which I can then access from Routes or dynamically route to on a ride. This is a bit of a fudge, and really needs a well thought out POI management registry. Importing / Exporting POI would be an added plus.
-
Agreed it would be nice to have built-in. However, the dashboard, including adding POIs, works fine from a phone, it's not just a desktop thing. I use that all the time, it doesn't take too many more seconds really. So I can understand why it might not be a priority for them.
Nigel: if you tick the heart symbol on a POI it makes it global so you don't need to use a specific route for it.

Joen,
Thanks for your note. I can add POI's equally easily via Desktop or Phone, I see very little difference to be honest.
I do understand how to create global POI's, but had had wrongly assumed these were linked to the route they were created in, although accessible from other routes. Seeing as I often delete similar routes, I didn't want to risk losing them. On just testing this I can confirm global POI's are clearly stored separately to routes.
I do find the global POI function very useful either mid route or at the end of a ride to easily re-route to a specific point.
I would prefer a well considered extension of POI functionality down the road rather than a half baked one in the short term and can appreciate this may not be top of the list. Being able to selectively import / export / display POI's could be useful in so many ways, perhaps using what3words as an easy way to share. Also allowing different colour POI's may useful too.

In addition: Comments to this topic may cause an impression that waypoint management already exists, in some way. What I have seen until now are workarounds, not solutions. If I compare waypoint management of a Garmin device (even looking on a small Garmin watch), then I am impressed of the software knowhow around outdoor navigation. In my opinion hammerhead is strong in hardware (display, speed) and map navigation (the routing algorithm ist very good). But the interaction between user and software is very poor. The handling of navigation profiles, specific rooting methods for different use cases, start and stop handling, very poor, compared to Garmin. The strengthness of Android is completely unused (phone functionality, open internet connection). Even to use Android as an open platform would be a strong argument to buy a Karoo. At the moment I use the hammerhead for touristic ebike touring, not more. The use cases for sport activities in different variants (road, mtb, tour, race) are too complex to be solved by the Karoo - my opinion. Waypoint management is the most important feature I am missing, but handling of profiles, rides, interaction with cloud services and so on also has to be improved. To survive within this market further development is necessary and there will be not so much time to finish important steps of improvement. This community can support hammerhead to be successful, but it would be wrong to describe creative workarounds instead of showing elementary missing features.

@ Hans
If you insist on using the device and not a phone, you can install Firefox or any other browser and use the dashboard from the Karoo.
A button to turn an ad-hoc point and click destination (which I use way more often than POIs tbh) into a POI would obviously be preferable. But this is still something you can do from the device and without ending your ride. Not sure about your other complaints, I think profiles, rides and interaction with cloud services are already very good, as so many others. So you'd probably have to elaborate your criticism for others to understand you.

I am active in software business over many years. Even outdoor navigation is one of my strong topics and and therefore I can make an evaluation of the actual software status of the hammerhead devices. I own dozens of devices of different manufacturers and use 8 to 10 software platforms (tour, sport) in parallel. Some of them as premium account - not cheap at all. May be that things are possible which I did not see until now (see my mentions about "creative workflows"). For many features I am missing the "solution", the clear logic workflow. I could be more precise, that's right. But then I had to work many hours to produce several 100s of tickets to give concrete development support. This is not my job. I payed 400€ for a Karoo 2 and I am expecting a product not in beta status therefore. At the same time I am an Garmin user also and compared to use a Garmin product the Karoo seems to be "not finished yet". It is a difference between product and potential. Please do not misunderstand me: I am not the Garmin fanboy to bash other products - I wish hammerhead a successful future, but condition for this is a realistic analysis of the actual status. I also will not sell my Karoo within the next months, but I expect that firmware updates will solve the main problems till 2022.

Coming back from titan desert race in morocco, i enjoyed the k2 and the 3d view was great when following uploaded tracks furnished a few days before the race started by the organisation. But…For this particular type of race the day before each stage the organisation would provide us with the GPS coordinates of 3 mandatory check points and 3 waterpoints . If in general the uploaded track would give us a good option to go from one point to another, as we were riding in deserting areas it was sometimes shorter (and faster) to cut the angles and go « wild » . This was especially true on stage 5 when the ride was « free » and the goal was just to pass the 3 CP AND finish line as (short) and fast as possible.
So I would be really happy if I had the option to add waypoints by entering the gps coordinates on the k2. I know how to add waypoints on ridewithgps (that automatically appear then on k2). But on both the internet or phone app it does not provide the option to add it with gps coordinates so useless for that particular mtb race. need a third party app to create a gpx file with gps coordinates, then upload to ridewithgps so it can appear finally on K2 after refreshing routes and waypoints on HH dashboard...Long story short, I wish there was a simple option to add Waypoints via HH Dashboard and/or on K2 by entering GPS coordinates.

All of us who do races like the Titan Desert need to be able to write the coordinates of the Waypoints for each stage as shown by the colleague in the previous card. I think the Karoo 3 is a great GPS and has a lot of potential, but currently without this WAYPOINT MANAGEMENT option it is not viable to use it for races like the TITAN DESERT in Morocco. Please implement this as soon as possible, thank you.

Garmin has introduced new waypoints features in their actual firmware: Now Garmin users can share their waypoints over several Garmin devices - miles away from what hammerhead can offer. Nevertheless the moment I am a karroo (3) owner, the display compensates some software disadvantages, and my Garmin watch (forerunner 965), that is always with me, offers the missing features (for example the waypoint management we are discussing). The new Garmin 1050 with it's fantastic OLED display is a bit heavy, so at the moment, only best display quality at a reasonable weigth are the actual advantages of hammerhead vs. Garmin. If Garmin introduces a compact edge 840 with OLED I will go back to garmin again.

Got a new Karoo 3. I was surprised to see "distance to next POI" is not available! It's something I used a lot when navigating on my phone with komoot. How far to the next water fountain, cafe, swim spot or whatever is important to you along your route. Just so useful, I hope this can be added.
It would also be great to see a list of POIs along the route, and be able to add/remove them while navigating. Dropping a pin and "nav to" while navigating really threw me off at first, I thought it cancelled my original route. This seems like a workaround for what folks are asking for here.
