Thank you for highlighting this to us. However, it looks like to be due to functionality that "Turns off the Wi-fi once a ride app is loaded/ride is started". This is done to save the battery. But when you take a route to Workouts via System app - Karoo by then turns ON the Wi-fi which is when the sync can be initiated.

Let me know if this explains.

Your explanation certainly explains the behaviour. IMHO, there are too many quirks like this that are not intuitive for users. Quirks=functionality not consistent throughout the entire interface and/or rely on other steps outside of the user interface (i.e. through syncing routes in the dashboard before attempting to sync on the device).

I really appreciate your honest feedback. That's what will make the Karoo better. We will definitely be working on a more automatic flow of the route or others on the Karoo.

Agreed wifi should be automatically temporarily turned back on whenever trying to take an action where it's needed. That goes even if there's a data sim in - I'm sure I'm not alone in using not a twinned sim with lots of data but a prepaid one without monthly charges but instead precious little data (I would ideally want my 1GB plan to last the full year it's valid for).

And the route sync thing, while not a big issue (I've got the dashboard set up as a standalone webapp on my phone), is just plain weird.
Expose the sync action in the API then do a POST from a button on the device (or better yet automatically when routes app is opened on the device...)
If doing something like that is not straightforward in your system it worries me your agile methodology is, as is too often the case, not underpinned by proper architectural, forward looking concerns but rather a dead-end into single-purpose hacks.

    Well outlined Joen.

Re. SIM cards, I don't have one in my Karoo 2. As requested by others, wifi over phone personal hotspot needs to be allowed in the ride app/tile and during the ride.

I enjoy the hardware and most of the software interface of the Karoo 2, as well as regular updates, but I'm beginning to have architectural and infrastructure concerns.

    Cheers Nordstrom Howie.

I don't quite get what you're saying tho - wifi in-ride works fine. Simply swipe down the quick settings drawer, re-enable it, and it'll auto-connect. Should be a setting to not auto-disable it though, for the hotspotters.
