Just received my K2 and have begun to set it up.  Will have more details later...but unknown to me there already is a companion app on the Android side of things at least.  Hopefully there are plans to allow data connection here?

Can someone from HH comment on future plans for Phone Connectivity.  I did not know there was a companion app originally.  Is it a choice to not include data functionality through the app, we can get notifications etc....but we can't open the data?  My other two head units (previous) have this simple functionality.  That was a sim card or hotspot phone plan is not needed.

    Hi Trey,

Thanks for your questions about data connectivity over Bluetooth. I am happy to provide some insight into that topic.

As you note, there is an app for Android that allows for phone alert notifications to be shared with your Karoo 2, but does not provide data connectivity. There is no app on the iOS side as it is not required for sharing phone alerts.

Data over Bluetooth has been requested by many community members. Though SIM cards and wifi/phone hotspots are great solutions for many, some people still do not have this functionality as part of their current phone plans. We plan to bring this functionality to the Karoo in 2022. I do not have a timeline that I can share yet, but it is definitely a feature that is planned for development in conjunction with a new iOS app and updates to the Android app.

@Jami, that is exactly what will keep me a customer.  I can deal with the lack of it currently.  Knowing it's a priority and something the team is focusing on in the near future is great news!   Thank you for your response.  I appreciate it.

For the period that you’re riding, you can swap the SIM card out of your phone into the Karoo. It takes about 2 minutes with a safety pin or a SIM card removal tool…
