Is there an way to read the default bike out of the profile?

I quit using the Karoo several years ago because I couldn't use ActivityFix to set the strava gear_id using sensor names.  Now, as a look at the Karoo again, I see that the profile specifies a default bike but you can't pick that up in the fit file or from the json after the ride ends.  Why is this not available or am I missing something?

I'm willing to write an extension to make this work but this seems like a crazy omission to me
