Feature Request: Distance to next Town on Route
AnsweredHey,
just finished a 4 Weeks Bikepacking adventure from Spain to Portugal with my Karoo 2.
A feature that would have been a gamechange is a list or something similar wich shows up all next villages or towns on your route in addition with distance and vertical meters.
Every single time i was looking at the map (of my karoo) to spot the next small village and then using my smartphone with komoot for calculate the distance and vertical meters to the next civilisation.
Cheers

You could just drop a pin at the village on the Karoo to get rerouted there to see the distance there (elevation remaining isn’t a thing yet for planned routes either, is it) wherever you normally see the distance to the end of the route. You can still see the original route line on the map as well in case the routes are different and you want to follow the planned one.

Well, if you are so much in the middle of nowhere that you need something like this, it is unlikely that the road network is complex enough that the routes differ in the first place. Even in the worst case, I’d say you might have to make max one or two turns following the yellow line somewhere en route before the old and new route start agreeing again...
(Oh, and there is also a legacy technology known as road signs :)

I wouldn't want to start dropping pins hoping that it happens to be a village and waste time doing that. I like Sebastiens request. I don't eat to spend 30 mins trying to figure out where my next stop should be or shouldn't be. Having POIs enroute and distance to them along with vertical climb will be handy as I can then take quick decisions.
I want to spend time enjoying cycling in more new routes and less time on Google maps and komoot to try and figure things out.
I also don't want to drain battery on my phone searching POIs.
Mainly stops are for coffee or water or toilets or cycle mechanic or train stop for journey back home.

Well, Sebastian wrote that he “was looking at the map (of my karoo) to spot the next small village” in the first place so dropping a pin there does not sound like that much of a stretch, obviously you may have to change the zoom level to figure out what is a village and what isn’t. Also, this sounded to me more like a need you come up with while en route, not something planned in advance.
There seems to be some support for intermediate POIs (you still have to select it as a temporary destination to see distance remaining though), but it looks like you have to create the route on Ridewithgps or the Hammerhead dashboard to use it, so no use to a Komooter like me... https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/articles/360051734934-Karoo-2-Navigating-to-Points-of-Interest-POI-
