Power Up and Settings Drawer Initial Startup
AnsweredThis is a very small thing, but honestly could go a long way for users. It's more of a UX (User Experience) thing more than functionality.
When booting up we have the animated K, cool. The screen finally shows up and then shows some more loading screens (whiteish as I remember) If you then go to pull down the drawer from the top, again we wait and it feels very sluggish.
Once all of this has happened once the UI is much more responsive (although not super).
It seems if all of this could be done even if it took 20 more seconds of the K screen, once the UI is presented to the user the K2 feels ready to go and responsive.
I know there are limitations on using Android and not sure what you can or cannot do, but certainly could go a long way in my opinion to the "feeling" of the device. I might even go so far as removing or adding SPEED to the animations....I know Android can do this on phones.

Hi Trey, Thanks for your feedback. There had been some improvement to the booting up of the Karoo for a ride start in the recent past, but I agree that there are always space for improvements. It is also true that there are some limitations from the Android, so we will see how our development and product team can work around those. I have shared this directly with the Product team for consideration. Thanks!

Big upvote on this one. Loading screen after loading screen makes the device feel very slow when in reality it could be lots better. I do not know if this is a limitation of the arguably very old chipset that is used, but I feel there is some optimization that could be done to make the system more responsive.
Regarding the animation speed: It is possible to speed up or remove animations by going to developer settings and adjusting "Animation scale" to .5 or off.

I have the SIM card in the unit with the mandatory PIN code enabled, and for me the sluggishness occurs during the PIN code input screen instead (input feedback has such a long delay initially that it is pointless to even try). Totally agree that showing the K logo for something like 10–15 seconds longer instead would result in better UX.

Ali,
I think in general we'd be happy with just a better UX (User Experience) not so much an improved/optimized boot time. Meaning, I/we understand there are limitations to the hardware as well as the underlying software that can only be optimized so much.
If it were possible as I mentioned, to keep the K logo screen, or even introduce another one, just for kicks......before we are shown ANY UI. When we see the UI, it fades up or whatever and everything is ready to go. When I pull down the upper drawer it slides down smoothly....not sluggish or try twice because I feel it didn't take (like it is now).
There will always be those that just want it completely booted up in 15 seconds...but I get in a habit of booting mine up while I do other things getting ready for my ride....it's not a long time honestly. But even after it's booted up when I begin to use it, it feels slow and sluggish because not everything has been loaded it seems.
My .02. Look forward to continued improvements, love what you guys/gals are doing! Keep it up.
