Update Map
Hi,
When are you planning to release the new maps? A lot has changed since the last release and it is a bit weak that we use OSM and we do not have the basic benefit of it - quick changes.

Hi @Miha - I don't recall, you're welcome to give it a listen.
I would assume updating the maps along with all these other updates aren't just a simple 'update' button but likely costs a lot of money and resources as I assume they're licensing them from a vendor. Infrastructure is always changing and likely impossible to actually keep up with. Makes sense to me to update these maps annually.

It is Openstreetmap data so the data itself does not cost anything per se, but of course preparing new files involves some work plus the bandwidth costs for distribution.
Still, I have had my Karoo 2 for about 15 months now and after the initial installation I think I have received about 3 map updates in that time, so “once per year” sounds a bit more infrequent than actual. In my experience the current frequency is fine, I don’t really want to deal with map downloads more often. (Coincidentally, today I hit what was probably the first time the map didn’t match reality in one area. But at least the asphalt was all new and ended up somewhere back on the map again :)

I noticed that a new batch of maps has been released yesterday (or earlier this week). Still, I’m wondering about the age of the OSM data snapshot used for the new maps. I did a few very minor tweaks to OSM (surface data corrections) over two months ago and none of these seemed to have made it to the new map (for comparison, iirc they showed up in the OSMand offline maps already in October). Updating the downloaded maps with data that is already several months old seems a bit strange to me.
Also, the map update process itself was rather awkward as far as the UI was concerned. Tapping on the updates available notification just brought up the list of regions and did nothing for quite a while and the downloaded regions were still shown in green. Tapping on an individual region did give an “update (x MB)” option but it appeared grayed out and did nothing. Once the downloads actually started, the progress information was rather uninformative, with a text “update completed” (or something like that) appearing right away and only the spinners at individual entries showing which downloads were still in the queue. A progress bar would have been nice...
