Battery drain when paused

When I pause the ride while having a coffee (or ice cream), no matter what I do, the battery drains extremely quickly - like 30+ percent per hour.

I lock the bike and take the Karoo 2 with me. Even when I turn off the Garmin Varia, enable battery saving mode, enable rain lock, manually switch off the screen: The screen always switches back on and the Karoo starts beeping if I move a few meters, as if it wants to tell me: Hey, you’re moving, are you SURE you wanted to pause your ride?

There MUST be a way to stop the Karoo from turbo-draining its battery when paused. And to have the screen stay off. Maybe I‘m doing this wrong, but if that’s the case, then doing it the right way is really not intuitive. At least I think I tried everything (except leaving it attached to the bike - that is not an option).
