I came here thinking the *exact* same thing. In the U.S. it’s $10. Best case they send one for free to those who complain, but even that is not the way to do it. Send out an email to those who bought Karoo 2 through your site saying “if you want a free USB-C cover, click here it or fill out a form and we’ll mail you one”!!

    Disappointing

Seems like a nice upgrade. I would order one, but this does not get shipped to Europe??

So I guess I am “the guy” who just said f^%k it and ordered one anyway. Take my $10 and I will test this “upgrade” out and report back later. David said that I have gone on two rain soaked rides with zero issues on the K2 .. so we shall see.

If there is a really updated version wich is not dropped on the first gravel ride I'd be in.
like you said, it's really a poor engineering to have a cover for the USB-C port that can be dropped, why is it not just integrated?
Or even a more technical approach, why not a Qi Charging cover to really seal all water out?

I got a free promo code via email, so the new cover was free, and also free shipping (in the UK, at least for me) - it should be with me in 3-4 days.

In the small print, it says: "***You are receiving this part for free as your purchase is within the 45-day return window." It was, but it seems pretty unfair to those who have had the device longer...

I don't see the complaint. The untethered dust cover isn't necessary and neither is this new tethered one.

The charging port is IP67 rated. If you ride in the rain, blow out the charging port before you charge it again and it'll be fine.

I've had my Karoo 2 in all sorts of inclement weather and it's still working fine and I've never used the useless dust cover they shipped. I'm assuming they only produced those because people got nervous about the charging port being uncovered, even though there's no need to cover it.

Had I known about this cover being shipped with new Karoo 2 from 1 September, I would have waited one day. Mine was ordered on 31 August 2022!!

For $10 (which basically covers the cost of shipping) this is a steal.  If you were fine without before,  hold on to you $10.  For me, this is totally worth it.

Does anyone know if this new dust/port cover is compatible with the Tuff Luv protective case?

I lost the cover probably a week into owning it and didn't really care as it is IP67 rated. Not going to buy one, especially for $10.

I got my cover at Harbor Fright. It has 150 covers and came to $0.70 a roll.

Hi David Fox, the cover is not compatible with the Tuff Luv cover as I have the same cover. Maybe Tuff Luv will come out with an updated version soon.

Thanks Gerry. That's what I suspected. I appreciate the confirmation.

I think it’s absolutely worth it for 10$. I’ve gone through 2x k2’s with melted ports, and while it would be great to have this just show up in the mail for free, the 10$ is quite a small price for piece of mind, loss of recorded rides (due to a broken K2), and my time reaching out to HH support for a replacement.
It was also nice that the provided the tool to install the new port cover.

I also expected a shipping cost to this item. Was a pleasant surprise to see ‘free shipping’.

    @ Brandon

Is water intrusion melting your ports?  Was this while using external power?

Have I missed a thread on this issue?

I just put tape over my port to keep schmutz out.

I ordered one of the covers when they launched a few weeks ago and I have to say that I am really pleased with it - well worth spending £10 to cover a £350 device. My understanding is that all new units will come with this as standard in the future!

I have a protective cover for my unit ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/TUFF-LUV-Compatible-Hammerhead-Protective-black/dp/B093GV2LHZ?th=1 ) and have also covered the USB C male plug with some electrical tape to stop it dropping out.

Purchased the new USB cover.  Placed the K2 in a protective bag while transporting bike to ride.  Removed the K2 to find that the USB cover had come apart - during transit in the protective bag.  Back to electrical tape....

    Hi Todd,

Sorry to see the rubber cover detached from the USB part. I will be happy to assist you with the replacement.

Before that, I would require more information before I go ahead. I have created a ticket for you and we can take the conversation there.
