Routing/Rerouting
CompletedI've been using the Karoo2 and have kept quiet hoping that the Rerouting function would get a serious update. It hasn't and that's unfortunate. Currently I'm riding different mountain bike trails near St. George, UT and I cannot follow a Route for more than 1 mile on any of these trails w/o the unit going into Rerout and, when a new route is generated it always follows a route/trail that I do not want to follow; essentially I'm lost. Have to get out the phone and go to Trailforks to figure out where I am, where to go. So many great things about the Karoo2 but the Routing routines are SO BAD. Whatever else you're working on, drop it and get Navigation working, PLEASE.

HH is not listening, please add comments on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HeXuFKSpYY
perhaps this will help as new customers will be more tuned to Youtube then to this forum

I rode a 200km Audax on the weekend. I am required to follow every km of the route which looped around a village. After a drink stop the Karoo 2 insisted I retrace my steps. I knew this was wrong and wasted time checking the route on my phone, memorising it and ignoring the turn around messages. It is a pretty simple basic ask to just follow a preset route. This is 100% why I bought the Karoo. What is going on?????

Hi All, thanks a lot for all your inputs and suggestions. We want to assure you that we have been paying attention to the conversations and wished to take the next steps after the release with the re-routing fixes. There are still improvements planned in the coming releases, and we would love to solve all these re-routing issues occurring globally and sometimes isolated to a region. Please share your issues/bugs as well as the files in a ticket to the support team, as that's the best way for us to get the fixes out for each of these isolated incidents.
It also seems there's correlation to riding off-road, and we know we must serve off-road riders well to achieve our mission. Once we understand the problem better, we can consider how to provide a proper solution. Until then, we can't comment on timing, but we can assure you that we care about understanding the problem you are facing, why you are facing it, and what we can do to provide a solution.
To that request, please provide your feedback on this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdoi-v4nHRgRLy47DfbdZHUt9oF63bM4c3ptO4ey5HiHE4qeg/viewform
Your involvement towards the improvement really matters to all of us. Thanks! -
I'm a gravel guide and I check old routes and new routes. When i leave a route its by choice. The accuracy of the reroute function is atrocious and the inability to disable it is a huge oversight. The big red arrows pointing at random trails makes me want to return to wahoo. Listen to your users, we spent money on your product.

i can fully relate Dave, so can countless other users of the karoo who got tricked into buying this device (other words come to mind).
It has been quiet from HH for a couple of months, hopefully because they are busy with implementing THE OPTION TO TURN THE HATED REROUTING OFF.
but... i fear it will be still there in a couple of months
they hear us.. they are just nog listening

I don’t think they grasp how big an issue it is. It’s just on the todo list rather than critical issue list. K2 users should be the best marketing tool they have waxing lyrical about how good it is to their mates in the Sunday group ride. I would not recommend it to an Audax rider I rode with. Oddly it was not as bad as it now is when I bought it.

Hi Ali,
Regarding you update to users:
Once we understand the problem better, we can consider how to provide a proper solution. Until then... we can assure you that we care about understanding the problem you are facing, why you are facing it, and what we can do to provide a solution.
Reworking the routing will be a great improvement someday so the Karoo works well for MTB and gravel riders too!
For now though, I think you already heard from many customers what the problem is and what you can do to provide a timely solution: Simply add an option to turn off re-routing.
Can you please have the developers add an option to disable it, and post a software update?

I recently started Gravel riding and navigation is a big deal for me.
I had a Garmin, but sold it for it's lousy navigation;instead of rerouting forward it mostly alerted to conduct a uturn.I am now using a wahoo element bolt v2. I love the device, but I find the screen a bit too small for navigation and the maps aren't too detailed. Also, the lack of a touch screen makes scrolling maps very annoying.
There's a new Wahoo Element Roam v2. The screen is still not very large, but bigger than the Bolt.
I have been debating to switch to the K2. But such issues like the rerouting, fairly low battery and no crash incident detection feature is putting me off.

New owner, done couple of road routes, great, but...
Went for the gravel ride and found out I can not switch off rerouting or just simply display a saved track.
There are so many paths in my forest and gravel riding for me means exploring. All I need is the option to display my track on the map, to be able to see where I'am at the moment and where my original track is. Nothing else. But seems to be not possible. My old Garmin can do this for years.
If I knew this before I would not go with Karoo 2. One of the biggest Pros for the Karoo for me was reading that they are listening to user request and are very responsive. But looking at this topic it seems they just don't want to do it.
So maybe just the warning for all the possible new buyers, be aware that you don't have this simple feature, that could be very important for you if you are doing this kind of gravel or mtb rides. -
Any updates? I think it's been almost 2 years since I put my Karoo in a drawer over this issue and bought a Garmin 1040. The inability to disable re-routing truly makes the Karoo unusable for many of us. Improving re-routing will not help (unless someone comes up with a magical new way to route based on heatmaps and AI or something...)
Please, just give us an "off" switch! -
Hi All, this feature was released in recent update on June 13th

I tried and it works!
But can someone explain to me, what it the difference now between:
- follow a breadcrumb route
- follow a route and disable rerouting
If I understand correctly the later one gives you turn-by-turn guidance when on track. Is there any other difference?
Anyway, I'm very glad I can now upload a route and just have it displayed all the time without rerouting. When I'm exploring new area this is pretty vital for me. Thanks Karoo team to finally add it. -
I can confirm that the new update has also worked for me, as expected and hoped for. Makes riding with a route a lot more fun. I usually cycle without a plan most of the time, but when I do, I almost always find an interesting spot or path next to my original route, and it was kind of annoying that the Karoo kept re-routing. Now I turn it off when I leave my planned route and turn it on when I want to get back on my route. Finally and very welcome.
Rerouting is generally a very difficult process as the device cannot know if I have left the route accidentally or intentionally and therefore cannot know what type of rerouting I would prefer. Therefore, the option to temporarily turn off rerouting is the best and ideal solution for me.
The point of the breadcrumb solution never really made sense to me, it was Hammerhead's first attempt at solving the issue of disabling rerouting, but they should have known better that a breadcrumb route just isn't the desired answer for this issue. Kind of a waste of time and for my part, they might as well remove it with the new option to disable rerouting. But I'm sure there will be users who prefer the breadcrumb option (which has also had its functionality updated a few times), as many riders never use the rerouting options on their devices.
