Broken FPC/USB Connector in Karoo 1
My Karoo 1 was a solid and trusty companion. But in the last couple of weeks I experienced some major charging issues. Sometimes it helped to plug and unplug it several times before it finally started to charge. Over the last weekend it stopped charging for good and is dead now. I opened the device and found out that the connection between the USB charging port and the flex cable was broken. The usb jack had now screws or other ways to stand the mechanical stress of plugging and unplugging over a long period of time. In my opinion a predetermined breaking point. There's no chance to fix this issue by soldering the port back on the cable. A spare part is not provided by Hammerhead.
I am not willing to throw away a device because of a $5 cable. If there are any ideas of a DIY solution to restore the charging function, I am very looking forward to hear them.
Kind regards,
Thorsten

I contacted support, but as the Karoo 1 is obsolete there is no official way to get it repaired or receive spare parts. A phone repair shop fixed it for me but after 4 months of riding it broke again. The physical stress by plugging in and out and maybe the vibration while riding makes this a problem waiting to happen. The phone shop can fix it once again but they say it will always happen again and they can't fix it a third time.
