Problems tracking climbs

Twice in the last month I’ve been hauling myself up an 8% to 12% cold, wet, forest climb only to see that the Karoo 2 is not showing any climbing is going on at all. The feet are not counting upwards. In fact, they’re not moving at all and neither is the altitude measurement. So frustrating. Is this a known problem? A problem with my unit? How can it be so off?
