Muting radar disables visual status
AnsweredNew Karoo2 user here - I'm getting frustrated at the connection with my Garmin radar as I can't seem to have it working in a visual only setting.
All the Hammerhead info points to the fact that using the radar mute option should kill the sound but retain the visual cues. On mine, that doesn't happen - if I mute the radar I lose all functionality unless the screen wakes up (or is woken up) by another function or button press.
I have found the setting for the radar to turn off the audible noise, but that doesn't work - the radar alert still sounds.
What am I doing wrong??

RTL515 user here. The Hammerhead info also points to the fact there should be "clear alerts in ride" (after a vehicle has passed) but I've never heard that one unless it's via bluetooth only.
I tried to enable visual only last summer after radar audio alerts were conflicting with navigation audio alerts, crashing the Karoo into a reboot loop. I couldn't get it to work. Disabling the audio alert also turned the radar off so no screen warnings appeared. Ended up muting navigation beeps instead and kept the radar beeps active as they are more important. -
@Richard @Jim: We are really sorry for the inconvenience caused to you with the Radar functionality not working as expected for you.
We have tested this from our end using RTL 515 Radar and everything worked as expected.
Here are the observations:- With the Radar not muted, Audio alerts ON - Karoo 2 shows the radar line during the ride and makes the beep with each approaching vehicle
- With Radar muted, Audio alters ON - Karoo 2 shows the radar line during the ride and makes no beep with each approaching vehicle.
-
With Radar not muted and Audio alerts OFF - Karoo 2 shows the radar line during the ride and makes no beep with each approaching vehicle
Since we have received a support ticket from @Richard, we will be working with Richard to understand the root cause of the issue and the possible steps to resolve it.

In context with the thread I sincerely appreciate that :) My frustration of the frequent false beeps from approaching vehicles (I often get two alerts for one vehicle and other times one alert for multiple vehicles) makes having an all-clear notification equally important. It is a default feature of the light/radar. Garmin's mobile app has it, as do their head units and other manufacturer head units, but HH is just a silent green banner.

To update, initial signs point to a radar reset (hold the power button down for 8s when you’ll see a very subtle flash of the blue light) possibly having solved the problem.
I am yet to test this on the road, but running towards a parked car with radar in one hand and Hammerhead in the other triggered the radar alert on screen without the beep!
Fingers crossed…

I'll chime in quickly to reiterate my request from a separate thread many months ago for the addition of "all clear" alert audio. As I said then, on a busy road with a long sting of vehicles passing to know the radar isn't seeing additional approaching targets after what I "hope" is the last one would be fantastic when it's just too dangerous to be physically looking back. I'll take the odd false alert over not knowing there's "one more back there" any day. There are many times when the first vehicle in the line drops off the screen as it passes and is replaced by another at the back end of the line, so unless you're continually watching the screen there's no way to know if the line behind you is the original traffic or if the stream of vehicles is continually building.

Thanks for taking the time to update. A disappointing result. I hadn't yet given the reset a try due to only doing Zwift rides. Have been using a Brotect clear screen protector on mine without too much a problem, much more readable than my old Garmin was anyway. All the best on your head unit decision journey :)
